About F1000 and this document The new F1000 provides tools for collaborative authoring, reference sharing, literature discovery and annotation in the field of Life Sciences. This document provides you with information about the user rights and server connections the F1000 suite of tools will require/use on your network. In it we have listed: •The rights required to install our tools (a Browser extension and a Desktop extension incorporating a Microsoft Word plugin) •The ports used by our tools for communication (both with the other tools on the users machine and our server) •The installation location/s of our Desktop extension by Operating System •Registry entries added by our tools (F1000 Desktop extension and the Internet Explorer 11 Browser extension) User rights required to install/uninstall F1000 tools We have endeavoured to make the use of F1000 on the network of any institution as simple as possible. Unfortunately, users who wish to use the Internet Explorer 11 Browser extension or the Mac Desktop extension require administrative rights to install or uninstall the application on the machine in question. All other versions will not require any rights above a normal network user. A complete list is included here for reference. The following versions of the F1000 Browser extension also support automatic updates: - F1000 Browser extension (Chrome) - F1000 Browser extension (Firefox) - F1000 Browser extension (Opera) - F1000 Browser extension (Safari) The F1000 Browser extension for Internet Explorer 11 does not support automatic updates at this time. Uninstalling F1000 tools The following list of F1000 tools can be uninstalled by navigating to the Add-on/ Extension settings of the relevant browser and removing them as you would any other browser extension: - F1000 Browser extension (Chrome) - F1000 Browser extension (Firefox) - F1000 Browser extension (Opera) - F1000 Browser extension (Safari) To uninstall the F1000 Desktop extension for Windows, users should uninstall ‘F1000 Desktop’ by going to the Programs and Features section of their control panel. The F1000 Browser extension for Internet Explorer 11 can also be uninstalled here and is named ‘F1000 IE Annotator [version number]. To remove the F1000 Desktop extension for Mac, users can simply stop the program and move the application into their trash as with any other OS X app. Ports called by the F1000 Suite of tools
