Students who enter SIU beginning Fall 2004 or later are guaranteed the same tuition rate for four continuous academic years by
the Illinois Truth in Tuition bill (Public Act 93-0228). The tuition amounts in the financial aid budget are based on enrollment of
fifteen (15) hours per semester, however, twelve (12) hours is considered full-time for financial aid purposes.
New and transfer students whose state of legal residence is Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri or Tennessee will be
charged an alternative tuition rate equal to the Illinois tuition rate and will be assigned a resident budget.
Beginning Fall 2011, newly entering freshman or transfer undergraduate students who have parent(s) or legal guardian(s) who
are graduates of SIU will pay an alternate tuition rate of 0.80 times the applicant in-state or out-of –state rate for Undergraduate
students guaranteed for four years.
Beginning Fall 2013, high-achieving non-resident new first-time freshman will pay an alternative tuition rate equal to the Illinois
tuition rate and will be assigned a resident budget.
Students who have declared a College of Business major and who enter SIU Fall 2008 or later should add an amount equal to
15% of the Illinois resident tuition to their total budget.
The fee amount in the financial aid budget is based on the maximum fees assessed to students with full-time enrollment.
Room and Board and dining plans are available at www.housing.siu.edu
Students must purchase their books and supplies. Students should come to SIU with sufficient funds to buy books, supplies
and any other items necessary to begin the semester, even if the student is expecting financial aid or plans to work on campus.
SIU does not issue book vouchers. The books and supplies allowance is based on full-time enrollment, but books and supply
expenses will vary based on the courses that the student is taking.
Living expenses vary greatly based on the individual student’s lifestyle. The allowance includes transportation, clothing, living
expenses not covered by on-campus housing, recreation, and other miscellaneous costs.
Beginning Fall 2014 new students will not have a cap on how many hours they are charged for the Information Technology Fee
and the Facilities Maintenance Fee.
Beginning Fall 2015 new students will not have a cap on how many hours they are charged for the Student Athletic Fee.
Financial Aid credited to the student’s account will reduce the total tuition, fees and room & board charges. Students are notified of the
availability of their Statement of Account via e-mail. It is the responsibility of the student to keep their mailing and e-mail address current.
