Week 1 will be held at the Feltner 4-H Camp site from July 13 – 17; we will be camping with Wolfe and Estill Counties. Week 2 will be held at the North Central 4-H Camp site in Carlisle from July 27 – 31; this will be a Fayette County only week. The 2015 camp fee for campers, ages 9-13 is $225.00. Applications for campers are available now and can be accessed on our website (www.fayette4h.com) or by calling the office (859-2575582) and requesting a packet be mailed to you. The DEADLINE for applications is June 1st for both camps; however, cabins are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so DO NOT DELAY in sending in your completed packet. Half scholarships are available to those who qualify; details on applying for a scholarship can be found in the camp application packet. We Want You … 4-H Summer Camp Counselors!!!! Did you attend 4-H Camp as a child? Remember how much fun it was and all of those special adults and teens that went to make your experience so wonderful? We are now recruiting 4-H Camp Counselors (CIT’s, Teens and Adults) to attend the Summer 2015 Camp season with us! We can only take campers if we have enough volunteers to fill the required adult to child ratio – PLEASE help us to be able to take as many campers as possible! Whether you are an experienced camp counselor or you want to volunteer for the first time, an application packet needs to be completed and submitted to the office by the deadline of May 1 st! Applications can be downloaded from our website: http://fayette4h.com. Adult volunteers will also need to complete the county 4-H Volunteer application – contact us to receive this paperwork if you have not already completed previously. 4-H Foundation Scholarship Program We are pleased to announce the 2015 4-H Foundation Scholarship program. Through the support of our sponsors, we are again offering six college scholarships. This year the opportunities include; four Farm Credit Mid-America scholarships for $500 each; the Michael Bandy / Ale-8-One scholarship for $1,000; and the James W. Kidwell Memorial scholarship for $1,500. All of these are cash scholarships for eligible 4-H members with a High School graduation date in 2015. To be eligible to receive one of these scholarships applicants must have been an active 4-H member for the last two years, be a resident of Kentucky, and meet the individual guidelines for each scholarship. The deadline for scholarship applications to be turned into the Fayette County Extension Office is Friday, May 1, 2015; the applications MUST be postmarked by this date. All winners will be recognized during 4-H Teen Conference held June 8-11, 2015. You will also find visit the 4-H Foundation’s website (www.kentucky4hfoundation.org) where you will find a blog with additional details about the scholarship program and a link to each application. The applications are also available on the Fayette County 4-H website (http://fayette.ca.uky.edu/4HYouthDevelopment). Livestock Club Wednesday, March 18th the Fayette County 4-H Livestock Club received a personal tour of the Bluegrass Stocks Yards by Jim Akers and got a hands on experience of the live livestock market! The 4-H Livestock Club is in the process of building a Livestock Barn for project animals this winter, so even if you don’t have a place to raise an animal, you can apply to house your project animal in the 4-H Livestock Barn at Masterson Station Park! We are still looking for lots of help in getting the barn finished for this show season. Must be a 4-H member in home county. No Cloverbuds. Cost (includes lunch): · Preregistered: $20 with a horse; $10 without · On-site registration: $30 with a horse; $20 without This is an unmounted event. April 21 – Regular club meeting at Fayette County Extension Office at 6:30. WE WILL NEED ALL PAPERWORK FOR STATE HORSE CONTEST AND DISTRICT HORSE SHOW AT THIS MEETING. KY Reining Cup Friday Night Tickets - April 24 If anyone is interested in watching this event we can receive a discount on tickets! Tickets are normally $15 but we can get them for $10 if we place our order by March 1. Please let me know if you want to go! May 19 – Regular club meeting at Fayette County Extension Office at 6:30. Please bring any projects you plan on entering at the State Horse Contest to this meeting. June 6 -7 - District 4 Horse Show at Lakeside Arena in Frankfort. Registration packets have not been released yet. June 18 – State Horse Judging at KY Horse Park June 19-20 - State Horse Contest at the Clarion Hotel on Newtown Pike in Lexington. State quiz bowl competition is held here! The schedule and events should be the same for this year. July 5-11 - State Horse Show at the KY State Fairgrounds in Louisville. The information has not been updated on the website yet for 2015 but you can look over the rules and schedule from 2014 herehttp://afs.ca.uky.edu/4H/horseprogram/state_horse_show . 4-H Urban Chickens Interested in owning and raising chickens in your backyard and looking for a low-cost project that you can do in 4-H? Not only can you enjoy fresh eggs everyday but there are many opportunities and activities that come with this project. The first 10 people interested in this project can be eligible for your first 6 chicks free. All the chicks that will be given to the first 10 participants are all straight run chicks. If you are interested please contact Kristen Kirkland at kristen.kirkland@uky.edu or 859-257-5582. 4-H Teen Club & Clover Council 4-H Teen Council is for those in grades 9-12 that are interested in gaining leadership skills while participating in FUN and educational 4-H activities. This club will help plan county level programs & trips, participate in district and state level teen events, and conduct a community service project. 4-H Clover Council meetings will be in conjunction with the 4-H Teen Council. Any middle school youth, a grade 6-8, is invited to participate. Members will plan meetings & trips for the year, and participate in district and state level conferences. During our March meeting, we will be focusing on our service and activities committees. Teen & Clover Council meetings will be held on the following dates (2015: 3/17, 4/28, 5/19). All meetings will be held from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Fayette County Extension Office. Snacks will be provided, so please RSVP (257-5582) to let us know that you are attending. 4-H Clover Buds Club 4-H Homeschool Club Our meetings will occur on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6-7 pm. Future meeting dates include: March 12th, April 9th and May 14th. Any youth, grade K-3, is invited to participate. Monthly club meetings will focus on a theme that will include activities and a snack. Clover Bud members must bring an adult with them to each meeting. Pre-registration for EACH meeting is required so we have enough materials for all. Please call the office, 257-5582 to RSVP for your Clover Bud member. Your club leader, Nikole Christenson, invites all homeschool families to join us each month as we explore 4-H and the projects available to YOU! Our regular monthly meetings will be held from 2-3 pm at the Fayette County Extension Office on: March 4th, April 15th and May 6th. On May 20th, we will have a Rocketry Day camp from 10 am – 2 pm.
