Dear Friends,
The healthiest churches in America tend to have a simple process for
making disciples. They have clarity about the process and they move
members intentionally through the process. They align their entire
congregation to this process.
The beauty of this approach is that no new program is going to be
pushed. There will be nothing new to add to our calendar. In the
coming weeks and months we are going to eliminate some things and
streamline our process for making disciples.
Also, please stay tuned to my sermon series on being a healthy
church member. As we progress through this series we will be learning healthy attitudes and practices of church membership.
Also, please remember to pray for members of church council. We
are taking an honest look to see where change needs to take place
and are asking God to use us to be instruments of that change whatever the cost.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jim
Congratulations to Breanna Butler who will be

Summary of FELC Council Minutes
February 19, 2015
Members of eight Boards were ratified.
The following were approved by the Council:
Minutes of the January 15, 2015 meeting
Attendance/Membership/Building Use Reports
Treasurer’s Report
Financial Report from the CPA Firm
During the Pastor’s Report, Sr. Pastor Jim Pearson highlighted part of his written
report. He explained that after study and examination of the 3DM and Navigators
programs, he felt they were not suited for First English. He is exploring the Simple
Church Program that appears to be more applicable to First English.
It was noted that the Easter Breakfast will be used as a fund raiser for FELC’s
youth to help finance their activities.
A thank you letter from the Upward Basketball Ministry for use of the Hiller
Activity Center was distributed.
Discussion was held concerning changing the offering of free meals to Victoria’s
First Responders from a Board of Congregational Life event to a stand-alone event
sponsored by FELC as a whole. Further discussion is planned as details are
addressed.
A proposal from Crossroads Christian School to use FELC facilities was reviewed
and discussed at length. While the proposal offers a significant opportunity for
Christian ministry, the initial time frame cannot be accommodated and a number of
important matters will need to be satisfactorily addressed before a final decision can
be made by FELC. The list includes compensation to FELC vs. expenses incurred
by FELC, a contract between both parties, liability/insurance questions, security of
church’s facilities not for use by the school and modification of the rooms/area
requested, etc. School officials are to be contacted for open discussion on the above
issues.
Recommended changes to worship services on a trial basis were discussed and
approved. Saturday night services will be suspended and only one Sunday morning
service will be held at 9:15 a.m. with Sunday School conducted at 10:30 a.m. These
changes will be begin on May 30 and continue through Heritage Day, September 20,
2015. Reevaluation of changes will occur at the end of summer.
David Dentler was appointed and ratified by the Council as Chairman of the Long
Range Planning Committee for 2015.
Purchase of 20 more new tables and two more carts was approved. Funding will
be from the Karnei and Jecker Funds.
Fifty food bags will be prepared for needy families by the Board of Social
Concerns. Assembly of bags will be on April 1 and delivered by Mid Coast Family
Services. FELC members may contribute money and non-perishable food.
