DEFINING OUR FOCUS
LEADING OUR CAUSE
Fox Valley Family YMCA - Plano/Sandwich, IL
2014 Community Benefit Report
OUR CAUSE DEFINES US
We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together.
That’s why, at our Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side
with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has
the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
OUR IMPACT IS FELT EVERY DAY
Y WE DO WHAT WE DO
Hannah lives in Plano, Illinois and is a single mom/hero to her 12 year old son, Joe and
nine year old daughter, Anna, with a third child on the way. Joe has autism and enjoys
special, therapeutic visits to the YMCA swimming pool where he can relax and feel the
freedom of movement in the water. Anna joined the YMCA dance company in 2012 and
"is a joy to teach and has the confidence to laugh at herself if she fails," according to
her dance instructor.
Hannah's pregnancy has been difficult, and as a result she's had to take an unpaid
medical leave from her job. Not wanting to have to make cutbacks in her children's
YMCA activities, Hannah requested and received YMCA fin-aid. Through the YMCA's
scholarship program, both of Hannah's children were able to maintain their
membership and participate in the programs that are helping them to grow and thrive.
Meanwhile the family bonds that help provide a stable base continue to be in place for
Hannah and her family.
