Display application GPSM Display is applied with Pro Sensor and used for indication of the fuel and lubrication materials level (like diesel oil, petrol, paraffin oil), other dielectric liquids and electrically conducting fluids (water, etc) keeping its physical character at the operating temperature range. The given manual describes the operation and setting of GPSM Indicator, hereafter referred to as “indicator”. Observe job safety rules before installation of the fuel level sensor and GPSM indicator! 2. Specifications Electrical specification DC supply voltage, V Input current (at 12V), mA Serial interface Level gauging Indication discreteness, l Averaging time, s Display Type Screen Size Number of segments lv Liquids to be indicated Fuels Oils Bio fuel Water 9 - 30 max 50 RS-485, RS-232 (optionally) 1 0 - 100 LED 22.5x14 3 2.4 mcd petrol, diesel oil, paraffin oil Engine oils, transmission lubricants, power steering fluids and hydraulic oils Ethanol Е100, Е85, Е50, Е20, Е10, methanol Electrically conductive liquids Operation conditions IP Code Operating temperature, ̊С EMC Immunity Level Operation conditions IP 30 -20…+50 SAE J1113/2 1996 3. Wires description Red – «+» 9-30 V Green – «-» GND Yellow – A (RS-485) Blue – B (RS-485) Red («+») Yellow (А) Blue (B) Green («-») Fig. 3. The layout of the pins of Pro Sensor fuel gauge unit. The Display is protected against polarity reversal; the protection against polarity reversal will protect the electronics from incorrect connection of the voltage. RS-485 circuits are protected from overvoltage (up to 30V) and short circuit. The improper connection of the unit results in termination of the warranty liabilities of the unit supplier. Regardless the unit modification, it is prohibited to connect the unit to the in vehicle network without installing two additional fuses for “+” and “-” that come with the unit. The fuses should have a capacity less than 500 mA. 4. Wiring diagram. Connection to the fuel sensor. Indicator should be connected directly to the fuel level sensor’s power supply; signal wires should be connected directly to the signal wires of the Pro Sensor according to the table below: Pairing display with fuel level sensor Display wires Pro Sensor wires Yellow wire – A (RS-485) Yellow wire – A (RS-485) Blue wire – B (RS-485) Blue wire – B (RS-485) Red wire – “+” (9-30 V) Red wire – “+” (9-30 V) Green wire – “-“ (GND) Black wire – “-“ (GND) Table 1. Connection of the display and Pro sensor. 5. Installation of the GPSM Indicator GPSM fuel level indicator is a compact device and can be installed in any suitable place. Avoid direct sunlight that can lead to overheating (>80 ˚C) of the display body. Do not install in a hot and humid place. 6. Calibration of the device Calibration test means obtaining a table of correspondence of the unit output signal (in nominal units: 0,00% - 100,00%) to the fuel volume (in the litters, for example). The fastest way of calibration is setting 0,00% of the fuel level as zero litters and 100,00% as X litters (for example, X=1000 litters). When level sensor will show 50,00% the display will automatically indicate it as 500 litters. However, as much corresponding values between output signal and liquid volume in the tank you will have the higher absolute values will be shown. Example of the calibration table shown below: Pro Sensor output signal (0-4095) Corresponding volume in the fuel tank 10 5 litters 100 50 litters 200 95 litters … … Table 2. Example of calibration table. 1. Before starting calibration, put the vehicle on the level ground. 2. Drain the fuel from the tank. 3. Fuel until the unit readings start changing. Write the unit readings and the used fuel volume into a Table. 4. Fill the tank with 10-40 liters of fuel at a blow (depending on the tank volume) and each time write the output signal values and the corresponding amount of fuel into a Table. 7. Operation concept Fuel indicator – is a computing device, which indicates data from the fuel gauge (Pro Sensor), calculate liquid volume or shows liquid level. Indicator with RS-485 interface can be connected up to 6 Pro Sensors simultaneously. 8. Operating rules The unit operating rules: - it is prohibited to expose the unit to aggressive influences, magnetic fields having the activity exceeding the one specified in SAE J1113/2 1996, mechanical stresses, sudden alteration of temperatures differing from the natural ones, also to operate the unit under conditions differing from conditions described in this manual; - it is prohibited to connect the unit to devices having interface differing from the one described in this manual; - the installation and setting of the unit should be performed by the staff who has studied the occupation standards, the unit operation concept, its operating features and technical specification. 9. Component parts The supply package includes: - fuel level GPSM display (main body); - extension cable (up to 1 m); - a device for setting the fuel gauge unit (optional); 10. Servicing The unit does not require servicing. 11. Repair The unit is maintainable if there is no mechanical damage. 12. Warranty Warranty period is 12 months since production date. The production date can be seen in the unit datasheet. Removing the device number from the unit leads to the cessation of the warranty. The manufacturer guarantees the normal operation of the unit if the customer follows the operating rules.
