Faith Studies @First Children & Youth Children ages 3 through 5th grade are invited for faith learning and fun every Sunday. We meet in room 204 at 9:35 and then at 10:00 am, all groups move to separate classes for Bible story and activities. 6 & 7 grades are being Confirmed today! and 8 -12 grades meet in room 114 for interesting discussion about stuff that matters to you. th th th th Adult Classes—Sunday morning Boomers—continue with their study of The 10 Commandments with Joan Chittister, facilitated by Susan Davies. room 112 Centering Prayer—This prayer time begins with 10 minutes of fellowship, followed by a 20-minute sit in silence, closing with The Lord’s Prayer. Mead Chapel Connections—Discover Your Spiritual Type by Corinne Ware guides their journey to self-awareness. room 203 Explorers—continue their study of The Underground Church: Reclaiming the Subversive Ways of Jesus by Robin Meyers. Adult Education Library Faithlinks—This intergenerational class looks at a current issue through the lens of our Christian faith. room 111 Adult Classes—Sunday afternoon Knitting Into the Mystery—are taking off the month of April and invite you to join them beginning Sunday, May 2, 3-4:00 pm at Tea Smith, 345 N 78 St. Adult Classes—Weekday A Study of The Torah—For more info, please contact Mary Spurgeon at Mary.Spurgeon@fumcomaha.org. Please gather with us again: April Collection for Box City 2015—Each year we assemble hygiene kits for the homeless youth at Youth Emergency Services. This year, FUMC is collecting full size (4-6 oz.) tubes of toothpaste and our goal is to collect 150 tubes of toothpaste. Each congregation is collecting various items for the hygiene kits. Please drop off your donations to the Donation Box in the Gathering Place. April 19 and 26 “God’s Creation, Our Response” The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. Dr. Florence and guest, Dr. Kim Morrow, will lead us these two weeks exploring creation as a gift in need of our care. Born legally blind, for the past 30 years, actress and comedian Leslye Orr has taught workshops internationally in which she upholds the possibilities of disabilities! Following her one-hour performance, participants from Quality Living Inc., Ollie Webb Center, and Immanuel Communities will present short vignettes on the theme of “Heroes”. There is no charge; recommended for ages 8+. Sunday, April 19, 12:00 pm, The Commons April 19 AGO Hymn Festival Prominent organists from the area (including our own two gifted staff organists, Mark Kurtz and Marie Meyers!) and a large choir made up of singers from around the city of Omaha will join in a celebration of hymnody in our Sanctuary on Sunday, April 19 at 3:30 pm. The event will include premiers of new hymn partitas (organ variations) by local composers (including Mark Kurtz), and the event, sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, is expected to be standing room only. No tickets are necessary—we will accept free-will offerings to help support the education of young organists in our area, and a matching grant will double the offering received that day. A reception will follow in The Commons, which will include a slideshow displaying pictures of organs of all kinds throughout the world. For those of us who love music and hymns especially, this is an event not to be missed!
