JOB TITLE: EVENT: STIPEND: TIMELINE: Event Coordinator New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) $1,200/month June 1, 2015 - August, 31, 2015 (3 months) Overview of Position The annual New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) is one of the largest events sponsored and co-hosted by the Graduate Assembly. The NGSO offers all incoming graduate students an annual workshop series in partnership with University Health Services; and provides workshops on financial management, tax preparation, fellowship application preparation, and many other resources available at UC Berkeley. The Event Coordinator will have the lead role in planning, organizing, and executing the NGSO, working closely with other GA staff and our event partners in the Graduate Division. Primary responsibilities • Plan and coordinate all aspects of the New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) o Recruit and organize the planning committee and delegate important tasks o Prepare agenda and facilitate weekly or bi-weekly meetings of the committee o Organize and confirm all presenters: keynote speaker and workshop leaders o Participate in planning meetings with the Graduate Division, GA Officers, and GA Business Office Manager o Handle coordination, planning, and organization of event logistics, including: § Publicity § Registration § Resource packets, program content and printing § Workshops and speakers § Catering § Donors § Room reservation and other facilities § Organization and departmental resources tables Additional Expectations • Maintain regular communications with the GA Campus Affairs Vice President • Publish and/or maintain contact information, fliers, website, email lists, and social media accounts • Respond to emails within 24 hours • Read, understand, and abide by GA governing documents; to include the Charter, Bylaws, and Operational Policies Qualifications • Current UC Berkeley student • Experience with event coordination • Commitment to equity and inclusion at all levels of campus governance • Effective cross-cultural communication skills • Organized, punctual, good interpersonal and written communication (including ability to use diplomacy/discretion) Anthony Hall • MC #4500 • University of California, Berkeley • Berkeley, California 94720-4500 Main: (510) 642-2175 • Projects: (510) 642-2876 • Officers: (510) 643-0602 • Fax: (510) 642-7721 • URL: http://ga.berkeley.edu/ • • Self starter, strong level of independence, creative Respectful of diverse opinions and underrepresented student experiences About the Graduate Assembly The mission of the Graduate Assembly is to improve the lives of University of California, Berkeley graduate students and to foster a vibrant, inclusive graduate student community.
