The mission of the Lutheran
Women’s Missionary League
is to assist each woman of the
Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God
so that she is enabled to use
her gifts in ministry to the
people of the world.
How many times have we asked or been
asked that question? How can we tell what
time it is? We can look at our wristwatch, a
pocket watch (old school!), a necklace watch,
the clock on the wall, the display on the microwave or other kitchen appliances, on the
TV or cable box, on the computer – the list goes on and on. Time is
important to us.
The Bible tells us what time it is, too. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, For
everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven
(ESV). In Romans 13:11, Paul tells us, Besides this you know the time,
that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer
to us now than when we first believed. (ESV).
The LWML says “The Time is NOW!” It’s time to look to the
future of LWML as we refocus on our basic common core values:
being in God’s Word, missions, service, and fellowship. The Time
is NOW for us to share our enthusiasm about the LWML! Go to
the LWML website (lwml.org) and click on “The Time is NOW”
button to learn more about this initiative.
So, what time is it? It’s time to plan on attending your Zone
Rally and bring a friend with you. It’s time to let your congregations know about the LWML mission grants and how we’re
spreading the Good News nearby and around the world. It’s time
to participate in Bible study. It’s time to look for ways to serve
your communities.
For some, it may be time to attend the LWML convention in
Des Moines, Iowa from June 25-28. The theme is “Bountiful! Sow –
Nourish – Reap” based on 2 Corinthians 9:8, “… so that in all
things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in
every good work.” Registration information can be found in the
Lutheran Women’s Quarterly and on the LWML website
(www.lwml.org).
And now it’s time to wish all of you a blessed new year as
“Lutheran Women in Mission” and to thank you for your dedication in collecting MITES, in your prayers, in your service, and in
your fellowship.

LWML national Mite Goal for 2013-2015 Biennium: $1,830,000
Amount Received: $1,513, 892.57 (as of 1/31/15)
Amount Still Needed: $316,107.43
Eager as we all are to see our Chesapeake District grants paid, the biennium for our national
LWML grants is rapidly coming to a close. They are in need of over $300,000 in just two months!
Let us add to our Mites, so that we may fund our District grants while, at the same time, assist the
national LWML to meet its commitments by the March 31, 2015.
Our next District grant to fund is for the Maryland division of Orphan Grain Train. Furniture, bins,
and associated items will be purchased for the donation sorting room in the new warehouse to
assist volunteers in this important task.

Another new year has begun and many resolutions made and already broken. Did you
make a resolution to up-date or make a will or
living trust?
Often, we forget about doing anything that
looks into the future. We don’t
know what the future will bring
us, but we do have the power to
make plans for our future by
transferring the blessings of our
estate to family and ministries.
In the Winter 2014 Lutheran Women’s Quarterly,
my husband and I had the privilege to share
our estate planning story with others. We
worked with LWML’s Gift Planning Counselor, Linda Gage, to plan our “future” just the
way we wanted it. Linda can do the same for
you. If you have any questions, please contact

We will be glad to help you, your society or
zone in any way we can. God bless you.
The district has established a Special Gifts
Endowment Fund to receive gifts of money and
property, either directly or through bequests under wills or trusts, to further the work of LWML.
Contributions may be made as a
memorial, or to honor someone on
special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations,
or simply to the glory of God.
Come up with your own unique
way to PRAISE THE LORD.
Please mail your check to the Special Gifts Chairman, Sandy O’Hedy. Note the occasion and who
the gift needs to be acknowledged to and Sandy
will acknowledge your gift appropriately. Make
checks payable to: Lutheran Church Extension
Fund, with “LWML Special Gifts” on memo line.
The Gifts Endowment Fund has a balance of
$1,811.44 in the Stewardship fund as of December
31, 2014 and a CD with $17,000.00. Quarterly the
interest of $91.05 from the CD is transferred into
the Stewardship fund. No gifts were given in the
last quarter of 2014. Grants of up to $300 are

I've been waiting all day for a plumber who
will now come tomorrow! My new home insurance company has neglected to communicate with my mortgage company so I've been on the phone and
faxing all day. Also tell me, when did service industry people
(whom we pay) start acting and talking to customers like a relative
doing you a favor for free?
I can't imagine what it would be like to also be a stay at home parent or grandparent with infants. I think maybe we would switch
the term, "going postal" with "going Mommy"!
However, as we approach the season of Lent we are blessed to
stop focusing on ourselves and our problems and consider all that
has been done for us. My greatest joy during Lent is that our heavenly Father looks at my sins and poor attitude and never denies
his relationship to me nor does He turn his face from me. For me,
Lent is a time for contemplation, for humbling myself and for being overwhelmed with gratitude.
I've had the privilege to serve in the ministry of the Gospel for
over 26 years and I am still amazed and honored to have this occupation. When I look at my life it’s been eventful. The Lord gave me
a wonderful wife who died suddenly. He gave us a daughter
when we thought we were barren. He gave me a second wife who
is overjoyed to be at my side. I've had many near death experiences yet God as usual has a plan. The Lord gave me a sense of humor
that is an acquired taste. Most of all God made me one of his children and for that I will never be able to thank him enough.
So when you have one of those days where you fear that your
head may explode; rejoice! Rejoice because regardless of what issues or crises you face you are blessed, beloved and favored in the
sight of your heavenly Father.
May the Lord bless the season of Lent so that Easter is more wonderful and special than ever before in your heart.
