The
is a unique event in
Wangaratta, Victoria, where successful artists share their
skills and insights through workshops and discussion over
three stimulating and creatively-charged days.
The workshops are open to anyone.
Registration is from 9am at the GOTAFE Auditorium, Docker
St, Wangaratta. Workshops run from 10am to 3.30pm with
lunch from 12 to 1pm.

Lauren Bittner ~ Handstitched Felt & Fabric Owl
Brooches ~ $80/$60 (materials included)
In this workshop participants will learn how to work with
different fabric mediums (felt, stiffened felt, vintage and
modern fabric, buttons) to create a fun owl brooch, using
fusing, glueing and handstitching.
Jo Davenport ~ Abstracting the Landscape using
Acrylic Paints ~ $80/$60 (some materials included)
In this workshop partcipants will look at different methods
used to turn a landscape into an abstract painting. Enjoy
exploring ways to ‘free up’ your painting style.
Adrian Osborne ~ Cartooning Workshop ~ $70/$50
Osborne’s colourfully delivered workshop demystifies
drawing by demonstrating cartooning and caricature
with a combination of live cartooning demonstrations
and storytelling that will inspire new ideas and ignite
confidence, while encouraging students to extend their
own drawing ability (even those who claim they “can only
draw stick figures”!).
Fleur Rendell ~ Colour Linocut ‘Puzzle Prints’ ~

Make your own colour linocut print using the Edvard
Munch inspired ‘puzzle print’ technique. This fun, quick,
unconventional approach is ideal for a one day workshop.

June Brown ~ Layered Landscape Textiles ~

Nick Charles ~ Part 1 - The Art of Accoustic Roots &
Blues Guitar (10am - 12pm) ~ $35/$25
You will develop a small wall hanging as you look into the
layers of a landscape. Techniques of fabric and either
hand or machine stitch application will be simple as they
are used to enhance the thoughts behind your landscape
impression.
This workshop will be an examination, demonstration
and discussion of the skills, techniques and influences
in the world of acoustic folk and roots guitar. Questions
concerning all aspects of acoustic guitar craft from
theory to practice to equipment will be answered. Some
important and fundamental tunes and styles will be
analysed as signposts.
Dean W Denham ~ Uke’n With the Dino ~ $70/$50
Learn the “4 Pillars” of ukulele playing with the founding
member of the Melbourne Ukulele Kollective, Dean
Denham (aka Dino Divo). In the first half of the workshop
you will learn sound techniques for starting your ukulele
playing and several songs. The second half will focus
on how to work in a group of players. Simple melodies,
picking, percussion and multi part vocals will be explored
as a means to developing more interesting arrangements
in the group environment.
Inga Hanover ~ Drawing Narratives in Concertina

In this workshop participants will use a variety of drawing
mediums and techniques and a number of thematic
starting points to create visual narratives on paper that
will be cut and folded into concertina style booklets.
Justin McManus ~ Documentary Photography and
iPhone ~ $70/$50
This Workshop will look at Press and Documentary
photography in the ever, ever evolving media landscape
- the opportunities and pitfalls of the 24 hour deadline,
multi-platform publishing and the influence of camera
phones. The workshop will include a practical component
with an opportunity to shoot a photo-essay or series of
press style pictures
Daren Pope ~ Release Your Inner Burlesque ~

This workshop uses the language of improvised
movement, self-expression and gender play to explore
and ultimately release the inner Burlesque performer.
Participants will complete the day with rekindled selfconfidence and an affirmed awareness of the body as a
sensual being. No experience required, just a willingness
to have fun and take risks in a supportive group setting.

Nick Charles ~ Part 2 - The Performer (1pm - 3.30pm)

This workshop will examine song structure, song and
instrumental arrangement; solo presentation as well as
ensemble arrangement of repertoire. The connections
between the musical roots and the contemporary singer/
songwriting will be looked at. Discussion of equipment,
stage presentation and direction with respect to career
may be discussed. The workshop will be of interest to all
levels of expertise.
Eva Ponting / Jan Donaldson ~ Cultural Weaving Coil
& Copper Artifacts ~ $75/$55 (materials included)
Eva and Jan will demonstrate traditional hand techniques
to produce simple jewellery and object artifacts using
combinations of fibre textiles, metals and organic/
found materials. Participants will be guided through
the historical and cultural relevance of the hand-made
artifact, with specific focus on making traditional string
and coil weavings. All participants will leave the workshop
with a finished piece, and a greater understanding and
knowledge of traditional cultural arts techniques.
Geoffrey Ricardo ~ Drypoint Engraving ~ $90/$70

Be inspired by the work of this renowned Australian
printmaker. You will learn the techniques of Intaglio dry
point etching on aluminum plate, covering basic plate
making and printing to create your own concepts.
Kate Rotherham ~ Short Story Writing ~ $70/$50
What makes and shapes a great short story? Come
and explore the short story form in this friendly and
encouraging workshop designed to get your ideas down
on the page and develop your writing skills. Suitable for
beginner and intermediate writers.
