In 1970, two young Indian doctors established a
small rural health and development program in
Jamkhed, based on the revolutionary idea that
communities could take charge of their own welfare.
Today, that program has grown to inspire countless
others and become a lasting model for WHO’s
primary health care and development strategies.
Course Dates
Course 1: 27th Nov – 17th Dec 2015
Course 2: 17th Jan – 6th Feb 2016
Cost*
For academic credit: $1700 (this does not include
the University of Melbourne subject fee)
As a short course: $2100
Places are limited: early applications are encouraged.
*includes tuition, accommodation and meals for the 3
weeks at Jamkhed. Airfares not included.
The Nossal Institute Limited, in partnership with the
Jamkhed Comprehensive Rural Health Project
(CRHP), will be running two short courses at the
Jamkhed Institute in Maharashtra state, India in
2015-2016.
The courses are designed for medical, allied health,
social work, nursing and development studies
students, and anyone who is keen to learn about
health and development in resource poor settings.
Learn about the principles and practice of
community-based primary health care in a program
that is an international model, from the staff and
villagers who pioneered this transforming
experience, and be transformed yourself in your
understanding of primary health care.
The subject can be taken either as a short course or
for academic credit with assessment. It is an elective
subject within the Master of Public Health program
at the University of Melbourne, and may be available
for cross-accreditation in other programs or
universities
