FOLLOWING CHRIST Discipling / Equipping / Serving GLORY OF GOD! Family News The Power of the Gospel in Mexico Prayer Requests I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16 The power of God through the gospel is still at work today, saving and changing lives across the world! GCOC recently received reports from several of our mission partners in Mexico that attest to this fact. Jardines de la Mancha church plant in Chihuahua City – Javier Adame relates that regular, weekly worship services began the first Sunday of the year at this new congregation in Chihuahua City. Attendance has increased from 4 that first Sunday to a current average of 12-17 each week. Progress has also been made in making new contacts and conducting home Bible studies. Casa de la Esperanza in Anahuac – Gil Sanchez informs us that two young ladies at Casa – Salena and Norma – were baptized into Christ in February. In Gil’s words, “One of our greatest joys is to see the change take place in the lives of our children…as they grow in the knowledge of our Lord.” Iglesia de Cristo in Cuauhtemoc – Othoniel Gutierrez announces that seven people have been baptized into Christ since the first of the year as a result of this church’s weekly radio program, home Bible studies, and prison ministry. One of the converts is a young man from Japan named Akira who is visiting his mother in Mexico for a few months. Using Google Translator and Akira’s mother as an interpreter, Othoniel was able to teach Akira the gospel in his own language. Then there’s the way we live or the reality about certain situations that stack up another way. If both stacks line up, you can build something strong on them. When what we say lines up with what we do, people know they can trust us. Our words then have strength, and our lives become built with integrity. Honesty really is an important topic. That’s why our children are spending the Being honest month of May talking about it. Honesty is choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do. isn’t just about the When we’re honest, when our words line up with our actions, people know they can trust us. Our relationships grow stronger. God understands the relationship between honesty and trust. This is something God set into motion in the first place. words you say; it’s really about the life you live. Since the beginning, God has been in the business of making and keeping promises. God told Abraham that he would be the father of a great nation of people, and he was. God told the Israelites that He would provide for them in the desert, and He did. God told Joshua that the wall of Jericho would fall if the people marched around it for seven days, and it did. God told Mary that she would give birth to a Son, Jesus, and she did. That baby boy was the answer to a promise God had set in motion from the beginning: God kept His promise to send a Savior. When we were lost, He came through and sent Jesus, the Messiah, the One in whom we can ultimately put all of our trust. That’s really what this is all about, isn’t it? God is honest! He has proven from the beginning that He can be trusted, even to the point of giving up His Son. And we’re called to reflect the image of God to a world around us that is desperate for people who will live with integrity. Continue to pray that this month will be a great reminder to all of us to be honest, no matter what the situation looks like. Monday: 5/18 - Don’t think evil of one another.
