Letter from Executive Board Chairman, Jimmy Eisenstein
Georgetown Scholarship Program Spring 2015 Dear Newly Admitted 1789 Scholarship Recipient, Let me add to the chorus of congratulations on your recent admission to Georgetown University. You are among the most talented applicant pool in the history of Georgetown! . As you may already know, you have been granted a highly prestigious 1789 Scholarship. The Admissions Committee nominated you for this award because the Committee members believed that, of the more than 20,000 applicants, you were one of the most outstanding and would bring something truly special to our campus and to our community. . Your 1789 Scholarship also serves as your "passport" and invitation into a special community called the Georgetown Scholarship Program (GSP), an organization of which I have the privilege of being Chairman. GSP was formed in 2004 by loyal Georgetown alumni and friends to provide more generous scholarships for admitted students. We did not want to lose some of our best and brightest applicants simply because other schools could offer better scholarships. We wanted you to be free to attend the college of your choice. In addition to your 1789 Scholarship, GSP connects you with those who contribute to scholarship at Georgetown. Supporters attend activities with GSP students, including panels, one-on-one meetings, networking, and social events. Many of them also serve as mentors to students. You will get the opportunity to meet them and benefit from their interest in helping you succeed. You will also have the opportunity to get to know the other students in the program, work with a GSP peer mentor, and create lasting friendships. If you enroll at Georgetown, I hope you take full advantage of what GSP offers. . You may not yet realize how unique Georgetown alumni are: they are eager to maintain a relationship with both the University and current students long after their own graduation date. They are excited to assist you in achieving your grandest goals. I hope you will accept this opportunity to become a member of the Georgetown family, and I look forward to seeing you on campus in the coming years. . Sincerely, James Eisenstein MSB '80 GSP Board Chairman
