To help with your revision, you should look at the course outline at the beginning of your exercise books. You may be tested on any of the topics up to and including week 11. How to revise: You should make full use of your exercise books as these should have all of the information you need for this exam If you have missed lessons, it is important you use the course outline to find out what you need to catch up on. You either purchase a text book (a good idea as you will be able to use it all the way through to the end of year 11), come and get work from your teacher or use web resources. Doing practice papers from the edexcel web site is always a good option for finding out what you do and don’t understand and for practicing your technique and timing. If you google “Edexcel history B” and click on the past papers link, you can find past papers from the “Life in Germany” course. They are also available in the central resources library in the History folder Please check your emails – I will be sending out presentations that you can use to support your own resources The Life in Germany course is a depth study so you need to know facts in detail. To revise this, I would recommend revision cards where you put key words and events on one side and the details on the other. You can then test your memory and understanding of each key detail Whilst we will not be telling you what is on the exam, subjects that often cause confusion include the following: Constitutional weakness of the Weimar government, Spartacist uprising, Kapp Putsch, Dawes and Young Plan, Weimar Government responses to the Wall Street 16 GCSE PE You will have a GCSE Physical Education exam at the end of June The exam will be 1hour 30 mins long and be out of 66 marks. (The full exam next summer is marked out of 80) To be prepared to do the exam you will require a pen and a ruler It is important to prepare for the exam as it contains all of the topic which have been taught in year 10. Many of you have the gcse pe revision guide I have also created an app called planet pe which is available on the app store and google play. Your exam will contain…….. 6 multiple choice questions 2 extended questions which require careful planning and are both marked out of 6 Several short response questions where you may need to identify, state or explain your answer using specific key terminology. The areas of revision required for the exam are: Reasons and Benefits for participating in physical activity Influences of taking part in physical activity Sports participation pyramid Components of health related and skill related fitness Goal setting Methods of training and principle of training Diet A healthy, active lifestyle and your cardiovascular system Assessing readiness for exercise Somatotypes Weight related conditions 17 Religious Studies You will have two RS exams at the end of June. Paper 1 (Religion and Citizenship) will be 1 hour 30 minutes long, the same length as the exam at the end of year 11. Paper 2 (Religion and Morality) will be 1 hour 15 minutes long. The actual exam in year 11 will be 1 hour 30 minutes, but we have yet to cover the last unit for this paper. To be prepared to do the exam you must have a black pen. Below are some topics you should be revising. Topics to revise Religion and Citizenship - Relationships Sport and Leisure Human Rights Identity Religion and Morality - Crime and punishment Attitudes to drugs and drug abuse Matters of death and elderly Suggested textbooks AQA Religious Studies B, Religion and Morality, Nelson Thornes AQA Religious Studies B, Religion and Citizenship, Nelson Thornes. 18 Revision Techniques Most of you will have set techniques for revision. In terms of linking content mind mapping is good. An alternatively technique is; 1) summary notes from revision materials 2) Summary notes from summary notes reduced down onto card 3) Underline keywords on cards. For each topic, good revision sub headings are 1) Christian/Muslim quotes and teachings 2) Keywords 3) Possible exam questions 4) Arguments. Advice from AQA Chief Examiner - - Spelling and Grammar important this year It is fine to use the same quote several times during the exam as long as it is relevant. You must put why this quote is relevant. A brief answer means just that. Give real life examples If not asked for your opinion, don’t give it. Do what the question asks. Command words are very important – for example ‘Give’ does not need a full sentence description or explanation. Explain means give some detail about it, why asks for justification of a viewpoint Focus on the statements. In the past pupils put in all the arguments for and against. So focus on the statement. Answer the question directly If you give just your opinion you get 0 marks. You must develop your ideas. More religion the higher the level. Exam Tips and Technique - - Timing wise, you have 22 mins (ish) for 18 mark question. A mark a minute plus planning and reading time How much you write should depend on the amount of marks available So, so important to ensure you are ensuring the question directly Using recent case studies/new stories is a good way to increase depth in answers Atheist is NOT a religious viewpoint. But most atheist argument can be called a ‘Humanist’ argument, which IS considered a religious argument. If in doubt, go Humanist. Underline the key words in the question so you know at a glance, what the question is asking you to do. Avoid writing everything you know about a topic, consider how to actually answer the question. Always mention a religion, never say ‘religious believer would…’. But give yourself wiggle room ‘Some Buddhists might…’ ‘A Christian could…’ Don’t contradict yourself from one answer to the next. To find past exam papers, search on google ‘aqa religious studies b’. 19 Media Studies Year 10: Due to the high percentage of coursework throughout Year 10 (worth 60%), you will not have to sit an exam this year. The final deadline for all coursework is Friday 10th of July 2015. You will need to submit: Assignment One – Comic Book Assignment Two – Marketing and Advertisement Assignment Three – Magazine Production Year 11: We will then spend Year 11 focusing on your exam. The topic for this is Science Fiction Films. We will complete a number of mocks throughout the year to ensure you are prepared. On top of this, you will also make any necessary improvements to your coursework portfolio to ensure you have achieved the best grade possible! 20 Product Design Year 10 Exam You will have a Product Design exam at the end of June. This will be 1 hour 20 mins long. [The length of the full exam next summer is 2 hours]. To be prepared to do the exam you must have a black pen, a pencil, coloured pencils and ruler.
