Finding Nemo Food Web
FINDING NEMO FOOD WEBS, CHAINS, and ENERGY PYRAMIDS A food web is a complex diagram that represents the many energy pathways in an ecosystem. Food webs are made up of individual food chains that represent how energy in food transfers from one organism to another. Sources of energy are represented by drawing arrows from the organism that provides the energy to the organism that obtains the energy. Energy Pyramids represent food chains and show the level of producers, 1st-level consumers, 2nd-level consumers, 3rd-level consumers, scavengers, and decomposers in each food chain. scavengers 3rd level consumers 2nd level consumers 1st level consumers producers decomposers Directions: Watch Finding Nemo and complete the food chains described on page 3. Draw arrows to each organism in each of the food chains. Do not draw arrows to the decomposers. Fill in the appropriate Energy Pyramid level for each organism including the decomposers. Complete the questions. 1. Which organism(s) are producers? 2. Which organisms are decomposers? 3. How many organisms are first level consumers? 4. How many organisms are second level consumers? 5. How many organisms are third level consumers? 6. Which organism(s) are the most important in this food web? Give an explanation based on the data collected (state the evidence from the food web). 7. Which organism do you predict will have the least impact on the food web if it is removed or goes extinct? Give an explanation based on the data collected (state the evidence from the food web). 8. Infer: What might be a possible explanation for the “upside-down” distribution of the energy pyramid? 9. What are two examples in the film of human impact on the ocean ecosystem? Phytoplankton gets eaten by zooplankton which gets eaten by clams which get eaten by the seagulls Phytoplankton gets eaten by zooplankton which gets eaten by sea anemone and clownfish…and the clownfish is eaten b the barracuda Barracuda eat any type of fish. They also eat octopus, squid, and shrimp …but barracuda get eaten by sharks. Phytoplankton gets eaten by zooplankton which gets eaten by Regal Tang which get eaten by the hammerhead shark. Phytoplankton gets eaten by zooplankton which gets eaten by Regal Tang which gets eaten by the Portuguese Man of War jellyfish which gets eaten by the sea turtle Phytoplankton gets eaten b y zooplankton, which gets eaten by krill, which et eaten by blue whales Phytoplankton gets eaten by zooplankton, which gets eaten by Morrish Idle, which get eaten by the Great White Shark Plankton gets eaten by zooplankton, which gets eaten by clams, which get eaten by the starfish, which get eaten by the hammerhead shark or the Great White Shark Phytoplankton gets eaten by zooplankton which gets eaten by Regal Tang which gets eaten by the Portuguese Man of War jellyfish which gets eaten by the sea turtle. Plankton gets eaten by zooplankton, which gets eaten by shrimp, which get eaten by the sea horse which get eaten by the angular fish..or maybe the sea horse would be eaten by other predatory fish such as barracuda. Plankton gets eaten by zooplankton, which gets eaten by many of the smaller fish like Regal Tang and Morrish Idle, and they get eaten by the pelicans. Plankton gets eaten by zooplankton, which gets eaten by shrimp, which get eaten by puffer fish which get eaten by sharks. Plankton gets eaten by zooplankton, which gets eaten by clams, which get eaten by puffer fish which get eaten by sharks. Marine worms are decomposers...so are bacteria, so EVERYTHING gets eaten by the marine worms and bacteria. Clownfish are known to eat marine worms. Crabs are scavengers, so they are waiting around at the bottom of the ocean…to eat any leftover pieces of any dead fish like barracuda, dead whale, dead sea turtles, dead sharks, dead shrimp, dead shellfish like clams, dead starfish, and other dead crabs etc. etc. Blue Whales, (the biggest organism to ever live), eat krill, phytoplankton, and zooplankton…which are tin organisms. Great white sharks and many sharks eat pretty much any type of fish…including barracuda, & they eat squid, & octopus. Hammerhead sharks can eat any fish, as well as other sharks, and hammerhead sharks eat shellfish like clams. Starfish eat clams and other shellfish, but sharks, hammerhead sharks, and crabs can eat starfish. Barracuda eat any type of fish. They also eat octopus and shrimp…but barracuda get eaten by sharks. Seagulls eat small fish, small crabs, and they know how to break into clams and other shellfish by carrying them up high and dropping the shellfish onto a rock. Clownfish are omnivorous fish; in the wild they eat shrimp, marine worms, and basically anything that is nonpoisonous to them and can fit in their mouths…including the leftover prey from the sea anemone. So a clownfish might eat leftover pieces of Morrish Idle, or Regal Tang, or Royal Gramma, etc. The Clownfish also eat phytoplankton and zooplankton. (Sadly, if the sea anemone stings Dori, then Marlin might eat her remains.) Tube worms eat chemosynthetic worm food that is made by the symbiotic bacteria that live inside the worms.
