TURING PHARMACEUTICALS NEW YORK, NY POSITION: Head of Communications INTRODUCTION: Turing Pharmaceuticals is a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company focusing on patients with unmet medical needs. The rapidly-growing company is dedicated to helping patients, who often have limited or no effective treatment options, by developing and commercializing innovative treatments for serious diseases and conditions across a broad range of therapeutic areas, including, but not limited to hypertension, lactation, suicidal ideation and orphan indication. SUMMARY: The Head of Communications will serve as a key counselor to senior management, partnering with Turing Pharmaceuticals leaders to develop and implement strategic, consistent messaging for both internal and external stakeholders. Turing is an earlystage, rapidly-growing biopharmaceutical company and this person will be charged with raising the visibility and managing the reputation during this pivotal time. This will require a proactive stance; while balancing issues communications needs will be key, this hands-on role will require the development of a forward-thinking, professional communications function. In order to be successful in this role, the Head of Communications must be someone with the seniority and acumen required to be a strategic counselor, coupled with the ability and enthusiasm for taking a direct approach to executing these strategies. RESPONSIBILITIES: o Develop and implement integrated strategic communications to advance the Turing Pharmaceuticals brand identity and broaden awareness of its business initiatives across key stakeholder audiences, including media, industry and business leaders. TURING PHARMACEUTICALS – HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS PREPARED BY HEYMAN ASSOCIATES PAGE 2 OF 3 o Develop and implement external communications strategy and plans to create corporate and pipeline/product brand awareness directed at media, patient advocates, community partners and other key audiences. Develop working scientific knowledge of Turing’s pipeline compounds and corresponding disease areas. o Set the vision and implement a comprehensive communication strategy for Martin Shkreli’s executive communications, internally and externally. Ensure executive message integration and alignment with Turing’s organizational objectives, strategies, mission and purpose. o Handle media relations strategy and execution, including key relationships with national and international media, particularly business media. Develop programs and prepare leadership to deal effectively with the media. Prioritize media opportunities, prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materials. Actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding company initiatives. o Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the company. Work with leadership to recognize internal and external communications and marketing opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them. o Create and execute a comprehensive internal communications plan; build employee engagement with company purpose and strategy in a way that supports retention and engagement of talent and supports growth. Support executives within the enterprise to communicate effectively with employees about the company vision, strategy, priorities, initiatives and accomplishments. o Work closely with HR to ensure a consistent message, look and feel across the company’s outreach to all levels of the organization and help position the company as an employer of choice. Help develop the company’s employment branding strategy and provide support for the program. o Partner with the Chief Financial Officer and investor relations team on financial communications and eventual investor relations activities before, during and after the IPO process. Ultimately coordinate with investor relations to develop earnings call scripts, quarterly reports, and presentations to the Board of Directors. o Develop and edit materials, including press releases, key message documents and Q&A’s to support company milestones, key data milestones, scientific presentations and pipeline/product issues. Ensure that communications programs meet deadlines and budget requirements. REQUIREMENTS: o Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience in communications and public relations, with leadership experience at a senior level. Some working knowledge of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology space a plus. o Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing and executing comprehensive strategic communications programs in support of a highly-visible organization and leader. o Comprehensive understanding of business relationships, and the knowledge, intellect and temperament to work at the highest levels in an organization. o Entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity in order to create, guide and implement communications strategies in a startup-like, rapidly growing environment. o Strong communication skills with the proven ability to synthesize, frame, and present complex information to diverse audiences. o Innovative thinking, with a track record for translating evidenced-based, strategic thinking into action plans and output. o Superior people and project management skills; ability to influence and engage peers as well as outside resources. o Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills, along with the ability to interface effectively with senior leadership and key external stakeholders. o Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive approach; reputation as a hands-on team leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives.
