Order for the Worship of God
June 7, 2015
Morning Prayer
Welcome
Pastor: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Pastor: Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.
I Corinthians 5:7-8
We Praise Our Lord in Song
And Can It Be
And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died he for me who caused his pain?
For me, who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be?
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love, how can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love, how can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
He left his Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite his grace!
Humbled himself so great his love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race.
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For, O my God, it found out me.
No condemnation now I dread:
Jesus and all in him is mine.
Alive in him my living head,
And clothed in righteousness divine.
Bold, I approach th’ eternal throne
And claim the crown through Christ my own.
Come, Ye Sinners
Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched, weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity joined with pow’r;
He is able, he is able, he is willing, doubt no more.
Come, ye weary, heavy laden, bruised and broken by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better, you will never come at all;
Not the righteous, not the righteous, sinners Jesus came to call.
I will not boast in anything: no gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom,
But I will boast in Jesus Christ; his death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer,
But this I know with all my heart: his wounds have paid my ransom.
The Apostles Creed
We Bring God’s Tithes and Our Offerings
The Call to Worship Our Great and Gracious God
People: Come, let us keep the feast!
Lo, th’incarnate God, ascended, pleads the merit of his blood;
Venture on him, venture wholly, let no other trust intrude;
None but Jesus, none but Jesus can do helpless sinners good.
Offertory: VBS 2015 Medley
Indescribable
From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea,
Creation's revealing your majesty;
From the colors of Fall to the fragrance of Spring,
Ev'ry creature unique in the song that it sings; all exclaiming,
“Indescribable, uncontainable, you placed the stars in the sky
And you know them by name! You are amazing, God!”
All powerful, untamable, awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim, “You are amazing, God!”
I Sing the Mighty Power of God
There’s no greater power than the power of our God!
I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at his command, and all the stars obey.
I sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with his word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how your wonders are displayed where’er I turn my eye,
If I survey the ground I tread or gaze upon the sky!
Our God
Into the darkness you shine, out of the ashes we rise;
There's no one like you, none like you.
Our God is greater, our God is stronger;
God, you are higher than any other.
Our God is healer, awesome in power; our God!
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the
communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the
body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
We Respond in Prayer and Praise
In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song.
This Cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All;
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones he came to save.
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied;
For every sin was on him laid, here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground his body lay, light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave he rose again!
And as he stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am his and he is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ.
The Scripture Lesson
Matthew 5:17-20
We Receive God’s Word
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the
third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from
thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
The Rev. Bradford Mercer
“What Makes Jesus Different?”
The Communion Hymn
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure,
That he should give his only Son to make a wretch his treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss; the Father turns his face away,
As wounds which mar the chosen One bring many sons to glory.
No guilt in life, no fear of death, this is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from his hand;
‘Til he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.
