Hocking Primary School Expected Standard: C Grade Descriptor – Physical Education Expected Standard: C Grade Descriptor – Health and Physical Education Year 1 Skills for Physical Activity By the end of Year 1, through regular and active participation in physical activity, students are able to demonstrate a range of fundamental movement skills in structured and creative play environments. These include: • Body management skills and spatial awareness with controlled movements in isolation and/or with equipment. • Locomotor skills that comprise controlled combinations of speed, shape and direction. • Object control skills whilst stationary and moving, including the use of targets. Students apply simple combinations of locomotor, body management and object control skills. They follow instructions and routines in physical activity and simple games. Expected Standard: C Grade Descriptor – Health and Physical Education Year 5 Skills for Physical Activity By the end of Year 5, through regular and active participation in physical activity, students begin to extend their fundamental movement skills. They are developing specialised skills and ideas and apply them to minor games and physical activities. These include: • Object control skills such as kicking a stationary ball or throwing and catching a small ball with correct technique. • Maintaining possession and control; demonstrated through sending and receiving objects and/or ways of moving. • Developing • Applying an awareness of other participants and the use of space. balance and stability and adjusting forces and motion to perform a movement. These include: • Object control skills such as dribbling, hitting a moving target. • Strategies for maintaining possession and control such as on and off the ball movement. • Creating and using space and beginning to demonstrate the ability to ‘read the game’. • Applying balance and stability and adjusting forces and motion to impact on the quality of the movement.
