COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT
My thanks to all of our members for the support of our annual Military Fishing
Day. A special thanks to Dave Keith for heading up this very successful event.
Even with the wet weather, it was a great day of fishing and I know our Military
guys and gals appreciated the day.
As a reminder, June 6th is the annual Jessieville Fishing Derby for kids under
16 and Arkansas Game & Fish has a kids fishing derby 6/13, both groups would
like our help to teach the kids how to fish. Contact Craig Schilling about helping
with the Jessieville derby and Don Langston about helping with the Game &
Fish derby.
I look forward to seeing you all at our club meeting June 2nd.
Thanks, Bob
2015 Military Fishing Day a Great Success
As a show of support for our troops HSV Anglers Club members along
with other volunteers took a group of active duty military personnel
fishing Thursday May 14th. This is an annual event and this year 26
military personnel participated. Fun was had by all and most caught
fish. The largest fish caught by species were; catfish - 17 lbs, bass—3 lbs,
crappie—2 lbs and bream 15 oz. Work has already started on next years
event.

May Club Tournaments—Post Spawn
The April 28th tournament was on Balboa. Twenty-six members fished the tournament weighing in 77 bass with a total
weight of 142.1 pounds. The majority of the bass were caught on the baits pictured below around main lake points or
docks. Wayne Beach caught the big bass of 5.5 pounds using a Texas rigged green pumpkin trick worm (bottom left).
Texas rigged green pumpkin and green pumpkin/magic Zoom ultra vibe speed craw (lower right one up) worked well. The
Zoom shakey tail watermelon with red flake worm (bottom center), Zoom green pumpkin magic baby brush hog (lower
right) and Zoom green pumpkin mag swamp crawler (center right) also produced well. Plastic baits were the successful
baits at the Balboa tournament but that was not the case at the May 7th tournament on Ouachita. Twenty-two anglers
fished weighing in 36 bass
with a total weight of 68
pounds. Spook type topwater
baits (upper left) produced
early along with swimbaits
(center) and swim jig with
green pumpkin trailer (center
left). Several anglers had success with crankbaits. Shallow
with the Strike King 1.5 square
bill (upper center) in sexy
shad and deep with a deep
running crankbait in baby bass
color (upper right). The green
pumpkin Zoom magnum
swamp crawler (center right)
also did well. The May 19th
tournament on Lake Hamilton
has been canceled due to
dangerous conditions caused by high water and floating debris.
Summer Fest
As part of the HSV POA Summer
Fest the HSV Anglers Club is hosting 2 fishing tournaments on 7/2/15:
one for children 15 and under and
the other a team tournament. Children can fish on any lake
in the Village but must bring their
fish to the Lake Balboa ramp between 10:30 and noon to be
weighed. Trophies will be given for
the biggest bass, biggest bream
and biggest catfish. All children
bringing fish to be weighed will
receive a certificate. The team
tournament will be a 2 person team tournament on Lake Balboa from 6:30 to 11:30 am. There is a $20 entry fee per team
with 100% payout to the top two or if 10 or more teams enter top three teams.
