Peer Health Ambassador (PHA) Facilitator

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Reports to: PHA Specialist
Travel Requirements: Travel will occur throughout the Chicago area to various Chicago Public Schools (CPS).
Description of Position:
The Peer Health Ambassadors (PHA) Program Facilitator will be responsible for facilitating the (10) tensession PHA curriculum. The PHA Facilitator will also be responsible for coordinating and supporting
youth participation in education and awareness activities developed as part of the PHA curriculum
activities. Facilitators will track attendance and stipends for youth as a part of their participation. The
PHA Facilitator will engage young people with a variety of health topics and issues such as reproductive
health, nutrition and fitness, self-care, consent and rights, and healthy relationships. PHA Facilitators will
encourage creative and critical thinking to promote healthier lifestyles for participating youth.
Description of Project:
The Peer Health Ambassadors (PHA) program is a project of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative’s
Teen Outreach Program through Chicago Public Schools (CPS). CPS is partnering with the Illinois Caucus
for Adolescent Health (ICAH) to implement PHA. PHA is a group of young people from across CPS that
engage in a ten (10) week Health & Wellness curriculum, and four (4) Education & Awareness activities.
PHA is a program that provides an opportunity for students to increase their capacity to organize
community projects and increase knowledge about: nutrition & fitness, healthy relationships, and sexual
health issues while building upon leadership skills. PHA participants become leaders in their schools and
communities in order to positively impact the lives of their peers, adult allies, and themselves.
About the Organization:
For more than (3) three decades, the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (ICAH) has worked in
partnership with youth to advocate for sound policies and practices that promote a positive approach
to adolescent sexual health and parenting. Currently, ICAH is a network of empowered youth and
allied adults who transform public consciousness and increase the capacity of family, school, and
healthcare systems to support the sexual health, rights, and identity of youth.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
 Implement (10) ten modules and (4) four education and awareness activities from the Peer Health
Ambassador curriculum in the designated Chicago Public Schools. Facilitators will receive training on
the PHA curriculum.
 Work with administration in CPS and facilitators in the Teen Outreach Program (TOP©) to recruit students
for the PHA program.
 Maintain proper documentation for PHA youth attendance & participation.
 Adhere to guidelines, protocols, and timeline for the PHA program.
 Participate in meetings, conference calls, and other communication with PHA partners.
 Deliver progress reports and other documentation as required by ICAH and CPS.

Compensation:
 PHA Facilitators will be paid at a rate of $25/hour.
 PHA Facilitators will be classified as “independent contractors” and will be responsible for all tax matters
related to this status.
Reporting Relationship:
PHA Facilitators report directly to the PHA Specialist at ICAH. This position is located within ICAH’s Training
Department.
Position Qualifications:
Experience
 Required:
o Experience in the field(s) of adolescent and sexual/reproductive health, youth development,
and youth engagement.
o Experience working with urban youth in a classroom setting.
o 1-2 years experience delivering evidence-based curricula.
o 1-2 years working with youth, especially adolescents. Preference will be given to those
candidates who have previous experience working with adolescents in groups.
Education
 A Bachelors degree in Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or similar is required.
Technology Proficiency
 Some working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
 Knowledge of and familiarity with Internet-based email applications is required.
Working Conditions
 Programs are implemented at multiple CPS schools, but facilitators will have access to space at
ICAH offices.
 This position requires later-afternoon & evening hours. Schedules will be negotiated accordingly.
 This position requires local travel. Access to reliable transportation is required.
