Coaching for Academic Success From Vision to Reality March 16, 2015 1 What is CAS? Coaching for Academic Success is a holistic approach to supporting students in defining, assessing and achieving their academic goals. We build confidence, intervene early and often, connect to resources and collaborate across the college. March 16, 2015 2 CAS: Holistic Student Support • Identify where students are under-resourced • Set measurable and reasonable goals • Develop time management strategies • Deepen student connections to faculty, staff and peers • Refer to college resources (tutoring, counseling, advising, financial aid) • Assist students in assessing academic performance • Amplify the educational experience March 16, 2015 3 Developing CAS: Persistence Research Vincent Tinto (1993) identifies three major sources of student attrition: 1. Academic difficulties 2. Inability of individuals to resolve their educational and occupational goals 3.
