Methods: The present study was a cross sectional study performed during December 2010May 2011, including 412 pregnant women admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Medical College
and Hospital, Sitapura, Jaipur for delivery. A pre-tested, pre-designed and structured
questionnaire was administered to collect data and thus collected data were analyzed to get
frequency, mean, SD & appropriate test of significance. Results: Mean age at delivery was
23.82±3.63 years. 83.5% study population belonged to socio-economic class III, IV and V.
28.4% pregnant women were illiterate, 46.4% were educated up to primary level. 64.8%
pregnant women were aware that ASHA worker is available in their village. 70.14%
respondents had ever heard about JSY. 41% respondents had good knowledge about
objectives of JSY, 69.9% had poor knowledge about implementation and eligibility criteria.
Prevalence of low birth weight was 31.79%. Pregnant women who had poor awareness about
JSY, had high prevalence of LBW babies (P = 0.004) and also high prevalence of still births,
