ICS students earned 23.3% average overall improvement on mathematics concepts throughout the 2014-‐15 school year. Students correctly answered 81,032 concept-‐based mathematics questions throughout the year. Mrs. Laurie Painter, 4th grade, and Mrs. Kathryn Frakes, 5th grade, were awarded “Champion” Mathletics teacher awards. Esmeralda Godina, Mattison Gillen, and Ariaunnah Utzinger were awarded top Mathletics student awards. Congratulations to all! Parents/guardians are reminded that your children may log into Mathletics during the summer to stay updated in math concepts. Every child has a log in name and password. Summer Skill books also help students retain skills over the summer. If you did not place an order for Summer Skill books when the school placed an order, please contact Mrs. Steele for the information, 734-‐6037. Important Notice to Parents of Students in Grades Pre-‐K-‐7th Parent/guardians are reminded that all accounts are to be paid in full prior to the close of the school year, May 22. That includes lunch and after school accounts, as well as tuition. If a parent has a particular problem, they are asked to call and talk with the principal. Report cards are only available to those parents with accounts that are in good standing. Bills are enclosed in the blue folder today. Parents/guardians who are on the 12-‐month tuition plan will have tuition deducted through the month of July. The new school year begins in August. End of the Year Report Cards Report cards will be available in the school office beginning Monday, June 1, through Wednesday, June 10, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and over the lunch hour. After that date, report cards will be available in the church office between the hours of 8-‐12 noon and 1-‐4 p.m. All accounts must be paid in full to receive report cards. This includes unearned Fair Share points that are due by June 1. We appreciate your help in these matters. Important Notice ICS Parents Regarding Registration We would like to thank those parents who recently completed their registration papers and sent them to Mrs. Steele through the blue folder. We would like to remind you that no one will be available in the school office to register your children after Wednesday, June 10, so it is important that you register NOW. Book orders are in the process of being completed at this time. If your child is not included in the count, he/she may be delayed in having their books the first day of school. The school only orders books for registered homeroom counts. Please also remember that fees that are not paid prior to August 7 are automatically deducted from checking/saving accounts. Students Progress to State Finals in Track & Field ICS competed in a very competitive IESA Sectional Track Meet at Bushnell on Saturday. Many of the athletes turned in their best effort of the year at this meet. Nik Barry led the boys’ 7th grade team to a third place finish. Nik qualified for the state meet in all four of his events! He won the high jump and 100 meter dash, placed second in the 200 meter dash, and anchored the third place 4 x 100 relay team with Andrew Fuller, Jacob Bentz, and Alec Thompson (Reese Kane as alternate). Bentz finished fourth in the 200 meter dash and qualified for state in the discus by throwing the state standard and finishing second. Thompson finished second in the pole vault by jumping 7’6” which qualified him to compete at the state meet. Maggie Huston finished first in the hurdles and second in the 100 meter dash to qualify in both events at the state meet. She also placed second in the 200. The 4 x 100 team of Maggie Huston, Ryley Huston, Carly Gillen, and Delaney Woodard (Josie Bentz alternate) won the event and qualified for the state meet. Gillen placed sixth in the 200 meter dash and second in the discus. She qualified for state in the discus by throwing qualifying distance. Woodard finished second in the pole vault and third in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. She met the state standard in all three events and will compete at the state meet this weekend in all four of her events. Good luck to the athletes!! Totus Tuus Registration Still Open Immaculate Conception Church will host a diocesan team for the Totus Tuus program scheduled this year from Sunday, June 28 – Friday, July 3. The junior high school session will be from Sunday, June 28 –through Thursday July 2. The fee is $15. The elementary program will begin Monday May 29 – July 3 with a fee of $25 per child. A family fee of $60 for three children is also available. Applications went home in the blue folder several weeks ago. We hope our parents will consider sending their children to this important summer program. Kindergarten Graduation, Thursday, May 21 The ICS kindergarten class will have their graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 21, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Mary Twomey Parish Hall. Parents of Kindergarten children are asked to arrive at 12:45 p.m. and use the parish entrance on West Broadway. Happy Summer Vacation & Farewell As this is the school’s last newsletter for the school year, we want to wish all of our families a happy and safe summer vacation. We hope that you enjoy some quality family time together. Remember to keep up on the reading, writing, and math skills over the summer so that students are ready for the ITBS test that comes quickly after school starts in August. The first day of school is a half day, Wednesday, August 19. Dismissal will be at 11:30 a.m. and there will be no After School that day. As your principal for the last ten years, I want to thank all of our parents/guardians for all of your support over the years. I have been enriched by my experiences at ICS and my day-‐to-‐day interactions with your children. I feel blessed and honored to have served the school community. Please know that the school will be in my daily prayers for many years to come. I hope to see many of you at the Open House the church is planning for me on Friday, June 5, from 5-‐7 p.m. in the Mary Twomey Hall. God Bless you all.
