Principal’s Report
Although February was a short month, it still was busy.
The high school students held a successful bonspiel.
Thank you to those community members who
volunteered their time. We really do appreciate your
support. Congratulations to Noah McLane’s team on
their win.
Another event the school participated in was Jump
Rope for Heart. A big thanks to Mrs. Kelly for organizing
the event. The students raised $1659.50. Thanks you
to all who supported this very worthwhile cause. The
students had a great time participating in the many
jump rope activities.
The staff and students would also like to welcome Mrs.
Rachelle Hugg to our staff. Mrs. Hugg will be providing
instruction to the Kindergarten classroom. We are very
excited to have her on staff. We hope you enjoy your
time at Imperial School.
I would also like to thank Kody Poitras for arranging an
alumni basketball game for us. Several of Ms.
Cantelon’s former players will be coming back to take
on the current senior boys basketball team on Friday,
February 27 at 2:45.
Just a reminder that on March 16, the staff will be going
to Humboldt for a Collaborative Learning Day. There
will be no school for the students.
Classroom Happenings
Kindergarten and Grade 1/2 News

Grade 3 & 4 News
In February, it was Groundhog Day, and the groundhog,
Wiarton Willy, did not see his shadow. We were so
excited for Jump Rope for Heart. We got to make our
own animals out of heart shapes and googly eyes. Each
team got to make a group heart to post on the wall in
the gym. There were also a lot of fun physical
activities. On the day before the break, we had a
Valentine’s party. We each got a Kinder Surprise with a
Transformer or a fairy inside. Then, we had a long
break.
We are now working on our book reports. We have to
make movie posters about our books. In math, we are
learning about division. Math is very fun and
interesting! In science, we are learning about light, and
in social studies, we are learning about the Plains First
Nations people.

Grade 5 & 6 News
In ELA, we are practicing for choral speaking and we
are also reading a novel called Number the Stars. In
math, we are learning about rounding numbers and
how to count money. In science, we are learning about
electricity. In social, we are learning about the world
map, and in health, we are learning about noncommunicable and communicable diseases. In PE, we
are learning about badminton. In computers and genius
hour, we are doing a science fair. In band, we are
practicing for the music festival.

Grade 7 & 8 News
Over the month, the grade 7-8’s have started a paper
clip chain. If they are staying on task they will get a
reward with paper clips. The goal is to get enough of
these clips they will earn a day at year’s end such as a
bowling/ swimming in Watrous or some other cool
thing. In math, we have been studying integers, the
grade 7’s have been doing adding and working on
treaties between First Nations and the Canadian
government. In Science we have worked on mixtures
and solutions with some really cool experiments. For
example, we have been trying to make rock candy by
super-saturating water with sugar. In Industrial Arts,
most of the grade 7 class finished building their
footstools, and moved on to making coasters or
bookshelves. The grade 8 class are working on a much
harder project. They are building tables and most are
still working on that project. In Home Economics we
have finished out Chenille Hotmats, and continue to
make out locker caddies. For Art, we have started doing
caricatures, which we have been having a lot of fun
with. Finally in Careers we have been learning why all
our classes are so important and why school is all
about!

Grade 9 & 10 News
This month in grades 9 and 10, we have been working
very hard with great success. In ELA we started
studying Macbeth, an exciting tragedy by William
Shakespeare. In math the grade tens have been
working diligently on trigonometry of right triangles,
and we have just started our pre-calculus textbook. The
grade nines have been working on linear relations and
graphing. In Science, we have finished our physics unit,
and have moved onto chemistry. In history, we are
studying the French Revolution and we are currently
writing a point of view letter about Maximillien
Robespierre. In wildlife management we have been
working on online modules, and we are planning a trip
to go ice fishing. In Physical Education we have covered
a variety of sports and activities, including basketball,
archery, floor hockey and badminton. We are also
working on our fitness and cardio. In art class, the
grade nines are sketching caricatures of faces, and they
seem to be having a lot of fun with it. All in all, we have
had a great month in school, and we are looking
forward to March.

Grade 11 & 12 News
The grade 11/12s have been busy during the
month of February. We have started a new
semester which now includes a lot of important 30
level classes. Wildlife Management has now
replaced last semesters Theatre class. The high
school participated in the curling bonspiel and had
a lot of fun. The Sr. Boys and Sr. Girls volleyball
teams recently had their windup and played some
games and ate pizza. The Sr. Boys basketball team
is enjoying their season and had an exhibition
game against some of Imperial's returning alumni
players. We have done archery in gym class and are
now starting badminton. The 11/12s enjoyed their
February break and are looking forward to the
March ski trip.

SRC Report
This February the Imperial School SRC spread the school
love. The month slid into motion on February 5 with the
High School Curling Bonspiel at the Imperial Rink. Also
included was a breakfast that consisted of pancakes,
sausages, and orange juice; all of which were made with
love. In total, there were eight teams to partake in the
Bonspiel, each of the teams possessing extreme
amounts of enthusiasm. After a hard day of curling, the
results were calculated and prizes were handed out the
following day. In first were the Habs, which consisted of
Noah McLane, Garson Liu, Brayden Taylor, and Jacelyn
Kelly. The runner up team was the Legion of Broom,
which had Harper Rae, Tyson Taylor, Jenna Joa, and
Brighton Hugg, who worked as a team to claim second
place. Curry Hard came in third place, and the team was
spiced to perfection with Ben Lewis, Kennedy Lewis,
Jonathon Nelson, Aiden Hugg, and Martha Martens. The
T-Dubs came in fourth with Colton Moysey, Sarah Joa,
Maguire Scheidt and Daniel Marten on the team. Fifth
place was awarded to the Lumber Jacks which entailed
Cooper Vance, Patrick Scott Sydney Vance, and
Mackenzie VanDamme on the burly team. In sixth place
was the Sunny Vale Samsquatches, which combined the
skills of Cole Lewis, Emmett Schiedt, Zachary McLande,
Robert Hugg, and Wynter Batke. The second last place
team was the Skittles, a variety pack made of Austin
VanDamme, Catelyn Poitras, Lexie Nelson, Weston
Wilcox, and Dahlton Anderson. In last place was
Brayden Detwiller, Garret Poitras, Emily McKurly,
Chantelle Remlinger, and Raelyn Goodsman, the Pow
Mashers. All teams fought hard until the end, and each
team was awarded an assortment of prizes to share.
The Best Team Costume was given to the League of
Broom after a difficult discussion amongst judges, as
everyone had such dazzling costumes. The prize was a
$10 gift certificate for each member for Georgie’s Place.
On February 13, the Heart Exchange took place in grade
7-12, as it is an Imperial School tradition. Kardon Liu
stole the most hearts, so watch out ladies! Also on
February 13 was Red and Pink Day, which took place in
all grades, and Haily Danyluk snagged the winning prize
for dressing in such sassy shades of pink and red.
February 27 there was Survivor at noon and teams were
asked to show their spirit by wearing team colors.
A big thanks to everyone who helped out with these
events, especially to the students and faculty for your
endless gusto and involvement. Keep spreading the
love!
Jump Rope For Heart
THANK YOU for helping to make our Heart & Stroke
Jump Rope for Heart event a Jumpcredible success!
On Tuesday, February 10, students from kindergarten
through grade twelve participated in Jump Rope for
Heart. The students were divided into five teams, and
between 10:00 am and noon the teams rotated through
five different heart related stations.
This year, approximately 92 students at Imperial School
participated in Heart & Stroke Jump Rope for Heart.
Together, we raised over $1600 for the Heart and
Stroke Foundation. Thank you for your support!
Supporting kids' health for more than 30 years, the
Heart and Stroke Foundation encourages kids to
get active while they collect pledges for heart
disease and stroke research. Heart disease and
stroke can affect anyone, of any age, anytime and
anywhere. Jump Rope for Heart also educates
students about the benefits of healthy eating, daily
physical activity and giving back to their
community.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the
event and supported this cause, which is so near
and dear to our hearts here at Imperial School.
Special congratulations are extended to our top
three fundraisers, Jordan Kerr, Chloe Federspiel
and Emma Schaeffer.
In addition to raising funds to support the
organizations’ mission, JUMP activates our kids to
embrace a lifetime of healthy living and social
responsibility.
