YÜÉÇà|xÜ VÄâu March & April 2015 Frontier Club Thoughts … March winds and April showers… We have already had an abundance of windy days with snow in the forecast. Let’s hope the warm spring rains are just around the corner along with the flowers! We have changed gears on our outing to explore NW Iowa. John Wipf has invited us back to the Oak Lane Hutterite Colony. It has been five years since we last visited the Hutterites. John even promised something special for everyone. Panama Canal Cruise Iowa State Bank’s Frontier Club along with Siouxland Travel and Tours has scheduled a Panama Canal Cruise for February 4-15, 2016 on Holland America’s ms Zuiderdam or March 5-16, 2016 on the Coral Princess. Start planning now if this is on your bucket list. We will set sail from Fort Lauderdale, FL and cruise the Caribbean with ports of call such as the Bahamas, Colombia, Aruba, Curacao, and Costa Rica. Entering the Panama Canal, we will spend a day cruising the spectacular waterway and Gatun Lake before exiting and stopping in Colon, Panama. Twenty-six million gallons of water can flow into a canal lock in just eight minutes! Electric locomotives attach cables on both sides of ships to ensure they are centered while slowly motoring on their own power through each lock, a fantastic experience. As we select a cruise line, more information will be forthcoming. Approximate cost will be between $3400 and $3500 per person/double occupancy for an inside cabin. Trip cancellation/interruption insurance may be purchased at an additional cost. UPCOMING EVENTS March 8 Daylight Savings Time Begins Spring ahead, fall back. Turn your clocks ahead one hour. The Hutterites are a religious communal branch of Anabaptists tracing their origin to the 6th Century. Sporting a beard and black suit, you may think that Mr. Wipf just walked off the stage of a production of “Fiddler on the Roof.” He will take us on a driving tour of the colony’s dairy, hog and turkey operations which have the latest technology and equipment. A walking tour of the kitchen will be followed by a delicious lunch served by the ladies of the Colony. Welcoming questions about the Oak Lane Colony and the Hutterite beliefs, John added that he had a special surprise for everyone.
