Efficient use of water can only be achieved by knowing the performance of an irrigation system.
This course helps managers and operators to achieve the best possible results, by learning how to
measure performance through testing and make improvements.
Water efficiency for high quality turf surfaces
The course covers:
Understanding the site—plants, soil and climate
Testing irrigation systems
Measuring irrigation system performance
Determining plant water needs
Collecting data to determine irrigation uniformity and efficiency
Checking system hydraulics
Reporting of water use
Identifying opportunities for improved performance and efficiency
The course involves both theory and hands-on practical. field work.

About the Course
The course is designed for people who manage and maintain landscape irrigation systems in recreation grounds,
sports fields and ovals, golf courses, public parks and gardens, schools and private gardens.
Participants will learn skills to improve water and irrigation management of landscapes.
The focus of the course is the evaluation of

Geoff Connellan has extensive experience in urban horticultural
water management, research and education. He held a range of
lecturer positions at the Burnley Campus, University of Melbourne. Since 2007 he has been providing consultancy services
in urban water management.
His expertise includes planning for sustainable irrigated open
space, turf, landscapes, urban trees, water demand management
strategies, evaluation of water use, irrigation technologies and alternative water sources.
He is the author of “Water use efficiency: Irrigated Turf & Landscape”, published by CSIRO.
He provides advice to local government, sports and turf clubs, botanical gardens, water authorities and industry. G&M Connellan Consultants.

Nationally Recognised Irrigation Units Assessment
Completing this course provides the foundation for the achievement of 3 nationally recognised irrigation units. These
are: AHCIRG306A Troubleshooting irrigation systems, AHCIRG303A Measure irrigation delivery performance and
AHCIRG305A Operate pressurised irrigation systems.

Standard Training Course Enrolment Terms & Conditions

Full payment must be made before commencement of training, unless prior arrangements with IAL have
been made.

Cancellations received more than 10 working days in advance of the start of the course will be able to
transfer to a future course without penalty. Cancellations will otherwise attract a 10% administration fee,
and the balance of the course fee refunded.

Cancellations received between 5 and 10 working days before commencement of the course will forfeit
50% of the course fee

Cancellations with 5 working days of the start of the course will forfeit 100% of the course fee

Substitution of a participant is acceptable without incurring additional costs

Transfer to another course date is acceptable up to 5 working days before commencement of the course.
A 10% administration fee will apply

Non attendance without notice will result in the full course fee being charged.

In all cases a substitute may be nominated to attend the original course without penalty

Cancellation policies for specific courses may apply to override this general policy, where special arrangements for the conduct of some courses involve significant advance commitments by IAL

Enrolment is accepted on the basis that IAL will not be held liable for costs incurred due tot h course cancellation or rescheduling. IAL will use all endeavours to give as early advice as possible of any course
changes, and the above cancellation conditions will not apply where the IAL cancel any training course.

Course dates and fees are subject to change without prior notice.

Clients who have a grievance with the application or this policy may take action in accordance with IAL
Grievance and Appeal procedure
