DOE, comprehensive benefits package Burlington, Ontario, Canada The Director of Finance (DF) is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (formerly Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants), and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate for Canadian Registered Charities. The DF position reports directly to the CEO. Responsibilities • Plan, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance. • Evaluate and advise regarding the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action. • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization. • Bolster the organization's credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO, the Board of Directors and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities. • Establish financial policies and procedures along with internal controls; ensure compliance to procedures including internal control. • Implement Raiser’s Edge fundraising software and Financial Edge fund accounting software and steer the automation of the Finance Department. • Responsible for the flow of accurate timely financial data in accounting systems. • • • • • • • • Work with other departments on preparing budgets and forecasts; track actual performance against budgets and analyze variances. Perform analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts. Track allocation of funds to meet donors' wishes and requirements. Develop a reliable cash-flow projection process and a reporting mechanism which includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Oversee the planning and execution of all program audits, annual financial audits, etc. Manage the organization’s finance department, overseeing the work of direct reports. Facilitate the professional and personal growth of staff with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals. In collaboration with colleagues and external resources, ensure that the organization’s financial practices comply with ethical guidelines. Qualifications • Degree in accounting, finance, economics, or other related field • CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) with ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Demonstrated experience with external reporting, external audits including documentation skills and audit files. • Understanding of Islamic financial practices and ethical guidelines essential. • Knowledgeable about the Canada Revenue Agency’s compliance guidelines, rules and regulations affecting registered charities in Canada. • Familiarity with fund accounting and regulations governing non-profit organizations. • Should be a proven leader and financial executive with relevant industry experience. • Must be a strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus. • Must possess excellent communication skills, be well-organized, and able to work well in a team environment. • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally. • Motivation and commitment to humanitarian principles required. • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
