In this talk, Darren will explore the various options available to the scale technician with specific reference to the options available in the Rinstrum product line, particularly with the introduction of open source programmability using Lua/Linux. Grounding and Power Issues Jim Daggon, Senior Product Engineer, Emerging Technologies Rice Lake Weighing Systems Jim will discuss some practical aspects of grounding: how it needs to be done for scale and electronic systems and how to tell if it is done correctly or not. He will also handle some of the safety aspects and a section on power issues, including RFI (radio frequency interference), EMI (electromotive interference) and shielding. Cloud Computing Tony Eason, Director of Technical Enablement Encore Technology Group Tony will discuss private vs. public cloud computing using Microsoft and Google technology. How to Trouble Shoot Scale Systems Kevin Detert, Head of Global Research and Development Avery Weigh-Tronix Kevin will provide a history of troubleshooting scales – mechanical, electro-mechanical and indicators – and discuss troubleshooting techniques – communications and interfacing. What is ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation? How Do We Sort Fact From Myth for Accredited Calibration Certificates? Pamela Wright, Accreditation Manager, Calibration American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) Pamela will discuss the differences between registration, certification and accreditation; explore ILAC’s role in providing oversight for accreditation bodies; cover some basic ISO/IEC 17025 requirements; and investigate common myths regarding accredited calibration certificates. How to Design and Engineer Your Own Solutions Derrick Labaran, Technical Support Supervisor Kamran Ravanasa, Embedded Specialist Newark element14 Hands-on, Single Board Computer workshop demonstrating a web server application built on RIoTboard and a Freescale Xtrinsic Sensor Board. This platform has been developed internally at Newark. Attendees will go home with a hardware hit and all the software and tutorials used for the demo.
