Teach For Pakistan Job Description Chief Impact Officer Position Title: Function: Start Date: Chief Impact Officer Program July, 2015 Reporting To: Location: Chief Executive Officer Karachi Position Summary: Teach For Pakistan seeks a Chief Impact Officer to lead the programmatic continuum, including Recruitment & Selection, Participants & Alumni Impact, Marketing and Human Resources & Administration. The Chief Impact Officer, in partnership with other members of the senior team, leads the organization’s efforts to grow the size and diversity of the Fellows, increase the effectiveness of Fellows in leading students to measurable gains in academic achievement, foster the leadership of Fellows & Alumni as a force for change, build a brand that furthers our mission and engage Alumni in the support of a stable, enduring movement for systemic change. The Chief Impact Officer role is best suited for someone with strong skills in strategic thinking/planning and in leading and managing people, has high attention to detail and processes, and has demonstrated success in running operations, and driving toward ambitious goals. The Chief Impact Officer will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Impact Officer is primarily responsible for ensuring that the Teach For Pakistan vision is translated into the day to day work of the organization through robust systems and processes. S/he will achieve this through vision alignment, management of each of the functional leads, and the supervision of strategic plans. The dimensions of the role, therefore, are across the whole organization and the Chief Impact Officer will also play a key role in building and maintaining strong relationships with Teach For Pakistan’s external stakeholders. The CIO will also play a key role in the management and development of external stakeholder relations as a member of the senior team. About Teach For Pakistan: Teach For Pakistan is a leadership development Fellowship for outstanding graduates and young professionals who commit two years to social change, transforming academic outcomes and life paths of students in under-resourced schools. Upon completing their two-year commitment, Fellows graduate to become Alumni, skilled and aware leaders of educational equity. In 2011, Teach For Pakistan inducted its first cohort of 17 Fellows placing them in Karachi’s poorest classrooms. In 2014, Teach For Pakistan has 49 Alumni who have completed the Fellowship, and 65 Fellows in classrooms across Karachi and Lahore. Teach For Pakistan is an initiative of the Aman Foundation and a partner of the international Teach For All network. Responsibilities: Strengthen the Programmatic Continuum: Managing and supporting the leaders of each individual program team – Recruitment & Selection, Participant & Alumni Impact, Marketing and HR & Admin: o Ensuring that each team’s goals align with the vision and mission of Teach For Pakistan o Ensuring that each team has a robust strategy to deliver short-term and long-term results o Ensuring that each team executes their strategy efficiently, effectively and according to see plans and timelines 1 Meeting ambitious annual program goals (i.e., size and diversity of the Fellows, effectiveness of Fellows in leading students to measurable gains in academic achievement, alumni leadership as a force for change, and alumni engagement) while laying the foundation for long-term success through assembling and developing a strong team, serving as a resource to them, and collaborating effectively across the organization Build Key Relationships: Serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team of Teach For Pakistan, contributing to decisionmaking on all critical organization-wide issues Reinforcing a culture of collective strength, goal orientation, accountability, data-driven decision making, and optimism about the potential for improvement across all staff Ensuring the collaboration of each programmatic team with one another in service of organization mission Financial Oversight: Overseeing the budget for all departments that report to the Chief Impact Officer, and ensure that all expenditures are in line with budget: o Implement and manage operational aspects of the annual budget o Provide clear financial analysis and make recommendations to the SLTs and CEO regarding financial decisions Oversee Organizational Growth: Working closely with Chief Executive Officer to create and execute new partner and donor strategies and materials, identifying new opportunities to leverage social media and other communication platforms in support of Teach For Pakistan’s ambitious fundraising goals Directing the development, execution and evaluation of all Teach For Pakistan’s marketing, brand engagement and communication strategies Participating as a key member in organization-wide strategic planning, bringing marketing and communications to the forefront of all aspects of Teach For Pakistan ’s strategies at every stage of planning and execution Additional Responsibilities: Support Recruitment & Selection cycles as a full time selector Actively participate and lead at the Teach For Pakistan’s Summer Institute as a full-time staff member. The Summer Institute is a 6 week, full-time training program designed to give Fellows the foundational knowledge, skills and mind-sets, they need to become highly effective teachers in challenging circumstances Attend recruitment presentations, coffee chats, gatherings that help Teach For Pakistan connect successfully to other stakeholders in the mission for education equity Education and Experience: Track record of managing a large team and a growing program Highly motivated leader who excels in an entrepreneurial environment and wants to make a material impact on the education sector Extensive experience of driving the development of organizational strategy, and ensuring this is translated into measurable operational plans Willingness to travel and work extended hours and weekends Extensive experience of working with senior internal and external stakeholders 2 Skills and Knowledge: Results-oriented, highly competent individual with exceptional strategic-thinking, organizational, management and communication skills Passionate about Teach For Pakistan’s mission of closing the achievement gap through enlisting our nation’s most promising future leaders in the effort Visionary leadership skills with the personal drive and energy to inspire and motivate colleagues and peers Demonstrable ability to build strong, sustainable relationships with a range of stakeholders, mobilizing them effectively in support of a common goal Excellent verbal communication skills and a proven ability to develop and deliver effective presentations An empowering, motivational approach to management, characterized by high levels of trust and a readiness to allow direct reports autonomy to deliver against agreed goals Sound judgement skills and an ability to priorities effectively in order to ensure delivery of key tasks How to Apply: If you are interested in this position, please email your (i) resume, (ii) a writing sample, and (iii) cover letter to careers@iteachforpakistan.org with a cc to ammar.karimjee@iteachforpakistan.org clearly stating “Interest in Chief Impact Officer” in the subject heading. 3
