Position Summary:
The Short-Term Consultant – Editor for Education Innovations Guidebook will report directly to the Project
Manager at Teach For Pakistan and oversee the editing of all text-based content for an innovations
guidebook under the Teach For Pakistan and Ilm Ideas project, “Encouraging Micro-Innovations in
Education.” He/she will be responsible for reviewing and editing all content developed for the Guidebook
on a rolling basis under strict deadlines. He/she will also participate in overall guidebook design and layout
development and coordinate with other project staff to ensure that guidebook content is developed and
finalized on a timely basis. The nature of the organization requires the incumbent to be flexible in approach
to work in order to achieve the project’s goals and the role may require, from time to time, the need to carry
out additional duties. This is a short-term position that will begin in late April and run through June 15th,
2015.
About “Encouraging Micro-innovations in Education Competition”:
As part of a grant received through Ilm Ideas, Teach For Pakistan is:
(i) Leading a competition-style campaign to identify the most effective low-cost or no-cost teacher-led
micro-innovations (innovative teaching practices) from public and private schools all over
Pakistan,
(ii) Compiling them in a guidebook, and
(iii) Disseminating the guidebook to teachers and educationists for shared learning.
This project has four phases:
In Phase 1 of Development and Solicitation, TFP will collect impactful low-cost micro-innovations,
through a nationally advertised competition, an online campaign and snowballing through key network
partners.
In Phase 2 of Testing, a Review Committee formed by education experts will outline a criteria and shortlist
micro-innovations based on it. Rapid Assessments will also be conducted to verify the submission.
In Phase 3 of Review and Synthesis, 30 micro-innovations will be selected for publishing, and top 10-15 for
receiving cash or in-kind awards. This will require going through a criteria agreed on by the Review
Committee.
In Phase 4 of Documentation and Dissemination, the top micro-innovations will be featured in a
guidebook for teachers. This user-friendly guidebook will be designed in-house and disseminated online as
well as through three conferences in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

Teach For Pakistan is a leadership development Fellowship for outstanding graduates and young
professionals who commit two years to social change, transforming academic outcomes and life paths of
students in under-resourced schools. Upon completing their two-year commitment, Fellows graduate to
become Alumni, skilled and aware leaders of educational equity. In 2011, Teach For Pakistan inducted its first
cohort of 17 Fellows placing them in Karachi’s poorest classrooms. In 2014, Teach For Pakistan has 49
Alumni who have completed the Fellowship, and 65 Fellows in classrooms across Karachi and Lahore. Teach
For Pakistan is an initiative of the Aman Foundation and a partner of the international Teach For All
network.

Review and edit all text-based content to ensure consistency with objectives of Micro-Innovations project
Review and edit all content for grammar, syntax, style, and accuracy
Follow up with project staff as necessary to fact-check and ensure that all necessary data is captured
Coordinate with Illustrations Consultant and vendor to create complete mock-ups of each innovation
Deliver edits under strict timelines to ensure that content is finalized on a rolling basis
Assisting in finalization of guidebook in conjunction with Communications and Design Manager
Work to draft and edit additional guidebook content and analysis as necessary in coordination with
project staff and external experts
8) Working closely with project management to administer and maintain the overall vision of the
innovations guidebook
9) Participate in cadence calls with project staff and Ilm Ideas as required
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, political science or a related field; graduate
degree strongly preferred.
• Strong grasp of the English language and experience in drafting content for guidebooks, manuals, or
related formats, preferably for the education sector at the primary and/or secondary level.
• Portfolio of writing samples with demonstrated editing experience.
• Experience working with external project partners including vendors, donors and experts to generate high
quality written products under strict deadlines.
• Experience in guidebook design and layout development is an asset.
• Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Suite and related software.
• Familiarity with the education sector in Pakistan and understanding of teaching pedagogy, curriculum
development and related fields.
