Re: IUE-CWA Political Action Training – May 18-19, 2015 – Dayton, OH
Dear IUE-CWA Local Presidents,
As we know, an active and engaged membership is a cornerstone of our Union. Political activism from our locals and our
members is key to the future of our organization. We have seen that we CAN make a difference when we get involved –
we have blocked the TPP from passing for over two years now! This is due to the work of our IUE-CWA members and
other allies across the country getting involved: writing letters, making phone calls, visiting Congressional offices. When
we bring many voices together, we can have an impact! I am extremely proud of the work our IUE-CWA Locals have
achieved in the fight against TPP—this shows the success we can have when we get our members involved. I want to
thank the leadership of our Locals for this success on TPP—it could not have happened without you!
As a part of continuing to build our Political Action Network within the IUE-CWA, I am very pleased to invite IUE-CWA
Local Presidents to send up to two members from their Local to attend our 2015 IUE-CWA Political Action Training. At
this meeting, members will receive hands-on instruction and skill-building for educating our members on key political
issues that affect us and how we can get engaged to make change. Topics will include fighting TPP and “Right to Work”,
protecting voting rights, and supporting local pro-worker candidates and holding them accountable. I am extremely
proud of the work our members have been doing to get engaged in these key issues, and this training will be a great
opportunity for those who would like to contribute to the critical work of our IUE-CWA Political Action Network. Please
see details on the training enclosed.
I look forward to meeting with our IUE-CWA political activists in May in Dayton, Ohio.
In Unity,
James D. Clark
President, IUE-CWA
IUE-CWA Political Action Training 2015

Training will take place at the IUE-CWA Service Center (313 S. Jefferson Street - Dayton, OH 45402)
Who Should Attend?
Local Presidents should send members who are dedicated to building participation in political action at your Local, with
training and support from IUE Headquarters. Those who attend will be expected to complete follow-up steps in political
action at their locals after attending the training.
Those who attend do not need to have previous experience working on political action, just a willingness to learn and get
involved. “Local Union Coordinators” should certainly attend if possible. Locals can utilize this training as a means to develop
new leaders at your Local. Those who attend should be the ones who have the capacity to go back and do the work at their
Locals. Often times Presidents and other officers already have many things on their plate, and may not have the time to do
the political work at their locals – that is why it is critical to send people who have the capacity and the motivation to do the
work.
How many members from each Local can attend?
Each local may send two members to the training.
Cost
All travel and lost time expenses for the two members attending will be covered by IUE-CWA Headquarters.
