ICAR sponsored Summer School on “Heavy metal pollutants in environment,
effects on animal and mitigation” inaugurated at IVRI
A twenty one-day Summer School on
“Heavy metal pollutants in environment, effects on
animal and mitigation” sponsored by the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was
inaugurated by the Director cum Vice-Chancellor of
IVRI, Dr R. K Singh at the ICAR-Indian Veterinary
Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar on 3rd June,
2015. The Summer School was organized by the Division of Medicine, IVRI.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest,
Dr Singh explained the impacts of heavy metal
toxicity on human and animal health, emphasizing
on detection using cutting edge technology, such
biosensors. He further called upon the participants
to learn and take part actively in addressing the
problem in the country.
On this occasion, Dr U. Dimri, Head, Division of Medicine presented an over view
of the division and its ongoing research, extension activities and achievements. Dr.
Sahadeb Dey, Principal Scientist and Course Director of the Summer School explained
the genesis of the programme and described the coverage of the course. He informed
that twenty four teaching and research faculty from 12 different states across the nation
are represented in the school.
Inaugural programme of the Summer School began with a welcome address by Dr
A.G. Telang, Principal Scientist and Course Coordinator and ended with a vote of thanks
proposed by Dr S.K. Dixit, Principal Scientist, Division of Medicine. Dr Sumit Mahajan,
Course Coordinator of the Summer School anchored the inaugural programme. During
the occasion, ICAR National Professor, Dr D.N. Kamra, all joint directors, several head of
divisions, other faculty and students were also present.
