Deadline: Wednesday, April 22, 5 PM
1. Fill out the contest entry form available at the library or on website.
2. All poems must be typed! Handwriting is often difficult to decipher. Do not put
your name on the poem – it should only appear on the entry form. Attach the
entry form to the back of your poem or send in with your poem.
3. You may submit only one poem. It may be serious or light verse.
4. Entries are due to the library by Wednesday, April 22nd. E-mail entries to Faith
McCarrick (fmccarrick@mclinc.org) are accepted if sent by the 22nd. If you do
not get an e-mail response, please call Mrs. McCarrick at the library to verify
that she has gotten the entry.
5. Prizes will be given in the following categories: Most Original, Best Poetic
Form/Style, Best Use of Poetic Techniques, and Best Focus (poem that most
effectively communicates its message). Spelling, grammar and punctuation will
be considered, but not weighed as heavily.
6. Winners will receive gift cards from Barnes & Noble and a bound volume of all
the winning entries from 2015. A copy of this volume will be added to the
library’s teen book collection.
7. The winners will be contacted the week of May 11th at the latest. They will be
honored at a coffeehouse on Sunday, May 17th, 3-5 pm at the library. Winners
are encouraged to invite friends and family to the event.
