Imagination is psychic energy that mediates the
phenomenal and imaginal. It gives form to image
and symbol and is midwife to growth and diversity
in the personality, enabling individuation. It
refreshes the vitality of the image. Imagination is
the source and chalice of creating and is intrinsic to
the processes of being, healing, working and living
creatively. It can ensure continuity, evolution, and
the expansion of consciousness which leads to
healthy relationships and ultimately to spirituality.
Yet, in western culture it is atrophying, because of
the nature of our relationship to it. Jung suggests a
life path that revitalizes Imagination. This workshop
explores some of his approaches.
The morning and afternoon sessions will begin with a thirty minute
introduction by Penny, followed by a short film extract that
highlights positive and negative acts of imagination. This is
followed by tea, music, questions and discussion. Background film
viewing by you, but not necessary, could be; Helen Mirren in The
Tempest; Derek Jarman’s Tempest ; Pedro Almodóvar’s Talk to Her
and Roman Polanski’s Macbeth.
Penny Norris is in private practice as a Jungian analyst in Devon.
She has given workshops and lectures on Jungian psychology in
