Falmouth Kayakathon Event Information
Event Overview
The INAUGARAL Falmouth Kayakathon will take place on Sunday the 14th of June 2015, the event will
consist of two exciting events both starting and finishing at the popular Gyllynvase beach. The first is
a competitive 18 mile circular route to Gul Rock, competitors will pass beautiful and historical stretches
of the Cornish coastline. The second event is a non-competitive "FUN" event allowing a variety of
paddling crafts and participants to be part of this wonderful charity paddle day, crafts included in this
event will involve sit on tops, sea kayaks and stand up paddle boards. The route will take participants
towards to the iconic Helford River, with a rest and halfway stop at Trebah beach, returning to
Gyllynvase Beach, a paddling distance of 10 miles. Our goal would be to have one hundred
participants, with the aim of raising a total of £30’000 for charity-each participant chooses and raises
money for their own charity.
Competitive Event
The competitors will start at Gyllyngvase beach, race towards Pendennis Point with its iconic castle
towering over them as they cross the Carrick roads, pass the famous marker of black rock, towards St
Anthony’s light house, “hand railing" the Roseland coastline, halfway mark and turning point being Gul
rock, after a pass around the back of the "rocky" island, competitors race for the finish line at Gyllynvase
beach followed by a BBQ and Prize Giving.
Please be aware, although on paper this paddle may look easy, it is not for the faint hearted, wind and
tide will challenge even the most experienced paddlers.
This is a race and those wishing to take part should be experienced and possess the appropriate skills
and equipment to paddle the distance and be competent at self-rescues, and be able to swim a
minimum of fifty meters wearing a buoyancy aid .The minimum requirement to take part in this event is
a BCU 3* Sea or equivalent experience.

2. 18ft – 20ft
3. Surf Skis
Non Competitive Event
The non-competitive "Fun" event allows a variety of paddling crafts and participants to be part of this
wonderful charity paddle day, crafts included in this event will involve sit on tops, sea kayaks and stand
up paddle boards. The route will start at Gyllynvase beach take participants south towards to the
iconic Helford River passing some picturesque coastline with a rest and halfway stop at Trebah gardens
beach, returning to Gyllynvase beach for a beach BBQ and prize giving.
The requirement for entry is some basic paddling experience with your chosen craft and more
importantly the physical ability to complete the 10 mile round trip.
Registration:
Please fill in the online registration document available on the website. You must read the event
rules and the Falmouth Bay regulations before you register, which too can be found on the
website. You will also need to print off and fill out a participant consent form and bring it with you
to the registration Gyllyngvase beach.
Registration fee:
£25 for ages 16 to 21
£35 for a single entry
£50 for a tandem team
The registration fee for this year’s event is to cover the costs of the support boats, Notice to

Note: Under 18’s must have a parent or guardian sign the Disclaimer of Liability form to be
handed in at registration on the day of the event.
