New Member Orientation
Welcome to the Y! We are so glad you have decided to join our healthy
community and we want to make sure that you get the most out of your
membership. We offer a new member orientation to answer all your
questions about what the Y has for you. It’s an opportunity for you to ask
as many questions as you like. Don’t worry this isn’t a lecture, but more of
a conversation. Each session is based on the needs of the members in the
room. Take a tour, talk about group exercise offerings or what is the best
class for your shy 3 year old. It’s all about you, your family and your Y
membership. Check the Y calendar at KEENEYMCA.ORG for our next
orientation date. If you don’t see a date/time that works for you we are
happy to meet with you one-on-one, just contact Andrea Smart, Director
of Membership Services to set up a time.

Program Drop-off and Pick-up
Children under 11 must be dropped off and picked up by an adult from
class at the designated beginning and end time. We value this time to
communicate with our Y families and continuous supervision provides the
safest possible environment for your child. Please be on time for programs
to ensure your child has the proper warm-up to prevent injury and/or
instructions to complete the day’s objectives.
Parent Involvement in Programs
Payment is due in-full at the time of registration.
6
Those unable to attend a program due to illness may make a request with
the program director (not the instructor) for a make-up. The director will
make every attempt to accommodate the request, however, make-ups are
not guaranteed and are based on space availability in other classes.
l
Parents are always welcome to observe their children in programs and
encouraged to communicate with Y staff at the beginnings and ends of
classes. We discourage “coaching” from the sidelines, as such behavior can
be distracting to both your child’s and other participants’ learning. If you
have concerns or comments that warrant additional time please make an
appointment to speak with the program director.

Our team of dedicated gymnasts has worked hard through their competitive season. As the season winds down and summer practices begin, it is a

should contact Ashlee Patnode, Team Coach, apatnode@keene-ymca.org.
Ages 18-36 mos
Introduce your young child to physical activity and social interaction early!
This class encourages exploratory fun in a playgroup type atmosphere. We
provide a safe environment in which instructors will help you and your
child explore and play. This class provides opportunities for parents and
caregivers to meet other moms and dads while toddlers begin social interaction with other children of the same age. We use age appropriate play

fun! Wear comfortable clothes.
Give your children the chance to find the gymnast inside while exploring

the Tumbl Trak, jump into the giant foam pit, try the balance beam and
other apparatus. This program is a FREE member service. Space is limited
to the first 15 members to register online through the Y’s homepage or

Collecting Personal Hygiene Items for Homeless Youth
Healthy Monadnock 2020 Initiative
State and community agencies are coming together to discuss a growing
concern for homeless youth in our area. It has been identified that approximately 30 students in the Monadnock School District are currently homeless. The Y has come to the table on this issue and we are involved in a
community effort to assure adequate resources for families experiencing
homelessness in our area. Local resource services for the homeless have
indicated that personal hygiene products are in short supply.
In an effort to assist our local homeless youth, the Y is now a permanent
collection site for personal hygiene
items like soap, razors, shaving cream,
shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth
brushes, feminine care products, and
baby care products. These items seem
small, but can have a huge impact on
self image, peer interaction and
WE ARE AN ON-GOING confidence. The Y has committed to
making our members aware of this
COLLECTION SITE
issue, collecting items and delivering
them to the Community Kitchen, which is one of 2 distribution centers in
the city. The next time you pick up one of these items at the store, please
consider tossing another into your cart for someone in need. Items may be
left with the Welcome Center.
Community Health
In Shape
As part of our dedication to Healthy Living and Social Responsibility the Y
collaborates with Monadnock Family Services to offer the In Shape program. There is a direct correlation between mental health and physical
health. This program matches individuals with mental illness with mentors
that work with them, one-on-one, to be physically active and meet their
health and wellness goals, improving the spirit, mind and body.
Providing Program Access to Low Income Youth
Volunteer at the Y
Our organization was founded on the spirit of volunteerism and we need
your help in continuing that tradition. Do you have an area of expertise or
a particular interest and would like to share your talents with the Y
community? We accept volunteer applications in almost every area of the
YMCA– Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility. Pick an

Membership for All
Health and wellness are not a privilege reserved only for the wealthy or
those with expendable income. At the Y we believe everyone should have
access to the tools they need to live a healthier life. As part of our mission
we try never to deny access to the Y because of an inability to pay the full
cost of membership dues. Through our Membership for All program we
provide financial assistance to adults, children and families in our
community who would otherwise be unable to access the Y. Membership
for All is funded through the generous support of our members and
neighbors to our Annual Support Campaign. To apply for membership
assistance please submit an application to the Y Welcome Center or by
mail ATTN: Debby Ellison. Applications can be obtained at the Y Welcome
Center or on the Y website.
