Professional Development Summit
June 25, 2015
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Tolles Career and Technical Center
Plain City, OH (just northwest of Columbus)
For teachers, administrators, mathematics specialists,
college and university faculty, school board members, and
all who are involved in mathematics professional development in Ohio
Primary goal for the summit: To collaboratively re-envision and build upon the statewide
structure for K-12 mathematics professional development in order to best support teachers
and students -- the core groups engaged in mathematics teaching and learning
***This will be a collaborative, working event!***
Specific goals, with a focus on the 2015-2016 school year:
1) To identify and communicate about the high quality opportunities (and success stories) already in place;
2) To identify unmet needs in professional development in Ohio and create opportunities to meet these needs;
3) To identify and plan strategies for supporting administrators and teachers in providing school-embedded,
ongoing professional growth opportunities.

Registration and light breakfast refreshments from 9:30 to 10:00.
Lunch and certificates of attendance will be provided.
The day will consist mainly of working sessions and opportunities for sharing among these
working groups.
Proposed (likely) working groups include:

Collecting and communicating success stories of teachers, classrooms, schools, and PD projects
Considering a voluntary, common PD evaluation system for Ohio, as well as a common website
where all math PD can be posted (both before and after PD)
Helping administrators learn what a quality mathematics class looks like and how to embed
mathematics PD in the school context
Planning OCTM-sponsored workshops for K-5 teachers - including the content standards and
Mathematical Practices, math teacher circles, and support from the ODE Network of Regional Leaders
Planning OCTM-sponsored workshops for gr. 6-12 teachers - including the content standards and
Mathematical Practices, math teacher circles, and support from the ODE Network of Regional Leaders
Helping teachers engage with parents around the standards
Supporting early childhood mathematics education: PK-2 (needs, challenges, opportunities)
Refining university courses/workshops to better support pre-service and in-service teachers
