The month of May has arrived
and with it, we celebrate of Bealtaine,
the national celebration of activity and
creativity as we age! 60 is the new 50!!!!
There are many free events and
activities to attend free of charge
in our Libraries this month, including
Mindfulness classes, Gardening
classes, Book clubs, Computer classes,
Exhibitions, Craft sessions, Health and
exercise talks, a percy French Singalong,
and even a Traditional Music Session!

The weather had taken a turn for the better and all the spring

An introduction to mindfulness
with practitioner Deirdre Dowling
on May 15th at 2.30pm, this is a
free talk, and all are welcome.
Thomastown book club meets on
Wednesday 6th May at 2.15pm,
and titles for discussion are: ‘Lila’
by Marilyn Robinson and ‘A short history of tractors in the Ukrainian
by Marina Lewycka’ All welcome.

John Boyne. New members are
always welcome.The title being
discussed at the May meeting is

6 Book Challenge Closing date
The 6 book Challenge finishes today (Wed. 22nd April). All diaries
are due back by 8pm.The presentation ceremony will take place
in the City Library next Wednesday, 29th April for all participants
at 11.30am. Only those who have returned diaries will receive
invitations, so don’t forget!
Exhibition
The artwork of Tia Vellani will be on display in City Library until the
end of April. Tia creates designs based on classical music and
weaves them into tapestries of tiny coloured glass beads.

Callan
Callan Library has a fantastic selection of dvds for borrowing. Dvds
such as Hanna- a quirky thriller, Sherlock Holmes- with two gorgeous
male leads, Kick-Ass 2- if you loved Kick-Ass you will certainly love
this! We have thrillers, comedies and everything in between.
Just call in and make your choice. Don’t forget to buy the popcorn!

this is a ticketed event, but free of
charge. Pick your ticket up from desk.
Parent and Toddler Storytime and Crafts
Drop in for this free session on Thursday mornings for an hour at
11.30am. Listen to a story and make something pretty!
Exhibition
The Story of Kilkenny’s architecture
continues
until April 30th.“Traditional Field Gates”
a display of photos and information
on Vernacular. Wrought Iron Gates will
be on display from May 5th – 23rd,
suitable for all, especially schools.
We offer free display space for individuals and community groups in
blocks of 2-4 weeks
Book Club
The Afternoon Book Club will meet at 2.30 on Tuesday April 28th to
chat about: “Us” by David Nicholls. May’s title is “The Paying Guest”
by Sarah Waters This lively group welcomes new members. Free
copies of these titles are available to borrow.
Irish conversation Circle
We welcome anybody who wishes to converse “as Gaeilge” on
Wednesday May 6th at 10.00. The group meets every month.
Nattering Knitters
Anyone who wishes to join this group is welcome, whether it is to
learn a new craft or to participate in this happy group, come along
any Thursday from 1am – 12pm.

Bealtaine Events will take place at
Loughboy Library on Fridays
at 11am during the month of May.
May 1st-Tea Day in aid of the
Alzheimer Society. Tea Day is a
social occasion where thousands of
people come together to drink tea
and raise funds for The Alzheimer
Society of Ireland.
May 8th-Mindfulness Talk-the what,
the how and the why of practising
mindfulness. May 15th-Make Your
Own Natural Beauty Products
Demonstration May 22nd-Exercise
& Healthy Living with Kilkenny
Recreation and Sports Partnership
May 29th-Traditional Irish Music
Session. All events are free. Active
Retired Groups and individuals are welcome
Computer Courses-learn new IT skills in the comfort of
your local library with an ECDL Equal Skills Qualification. This is a
fun, informal and uncomplicated introduction to computers and the
Internet for beginners. Courses will run on Thursdays and Fridays
from 2-4pm for five weeks and are particularly aimed at job seekers.

Toddler Hour-toddlers and parents busy making Easter crafts
at Loughboy Library. Toddler Hour takes place on Thursdays
at 11.30am
Batik Exhibition by Agata Atlasik
continues until May 1st. Batik is the
process of waxing and dyeing. Agatha
has lived and worked in Ireland since
2005. Her contemporary pieces in this
collection are created on cotton and silk.
Recommended Reads-library borrowers and staff recently enjoyed
Serena by Rob Rash, The Woman Upstairs by Claire Messud and
Joseph by John McKenna. New titles which will be available to book
clubs countywide include I Am Pilgrim by Terry Healy, Us by David
Nicholls, Road Ends by Mary Lawson and Academy Street by Mary
Costelloe. Villa America by Lisa Klaussmann, which is currently being
discussed on the Pat Kenny Radio Show Book Club, will also be in

World Book Night
Is tomorrow Thursday April 23rd, and
Kilkenny Library is delighted to have been
chosen as an Institutional Book Giver, thanks
to The Reading Agency which has donated
thousands of books
throughout Braitain and Ireland. Some of our
Book Club Members will receive free books
to give to people who don’t normally enjoy
the pleasure of owning and reading a book!
Ferrybank Library
FREE - MABS Workshop Friday, 24th April 2015 @ 11:00am – .
No appointment necessary. All are welcome.
CHESS – Is your child interested in learning how to play chess? If yes, then now
is the chance to sign up. Starting Thursday 14th May 2015 from 3:30 – 4:30pm
each Thursday for four weeks. Open to children in 4th to 6th classes only.
Spaces limited, so early booking advisable.
Education Training Board Computer Classes - commencing Tuesday 5th May
at 2:30pm and continuing Friday 8th May at 10:30am and will run for five weeks.
We are taking names now, places given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
