Friday April 24, 2015 - Knox United Church, Ayr
Friday April 24, 2015 From the Minister’s Desk Friday April 24, 2015 Good morning Knox friends. Inside this issue: I have a very brief file for this week. I have had some interest in getting together to discuss some of the issues around declining church attendance in the mainline denominations. This topic was suggested in response to an article in the Kitchener record featuring Rev. Randy Banks from Roseville and Olivet United Churches. I would hope that a part of our conversation would include Biblical references, personal and communal histories and some positive ideas about moving forward. I have had meeting with Randy Banks and he would like to join us if the time is convenient. I would like to have a meeting of anyone interested in this 4 week discussion to join with me after church in the Hall on May 3. We can set some times and possible topics. From my perspective we are in interesting times. In our general operating account we find ourselves with a small surplus. By that I mean our income was slightly larger than our expenses. Typically at this time of year we are in a deficit position. I am very appreciative of the financial support from the United Church of Canada with respect to our ministerial expenses. I understand we will be hearing from Liam and Harrison next Sunday reporting on their mission trip. Our congregation generously supported their trip and after they paid their expenses, the Youth Trip Fund has a small balance in it to help fund future youth trips. Also our Memorial Fund has sufficient funds in it to fully pay for our sound and audio system in addition to the new sign that is scheduled to be installed this spring. So, the bottom line, THANK YOU for your tremendous support of the ministry here at Knox and around the world! Don Davidson, Treasurer. THE COUNCIL CORNER Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?” As the quote indicates, we are here to serve others in whatever way we can. I have always felt that when we make a difference in someone else’s day, we feel good too. It is a WIN-WIN situation. Look for those little opportunities to assist in some small way. This week we have celebrated EARTH Day as well as SECRETARY’S Day and likely a few BIRTHDAYS and ANNIVERSARIES as well. Make these days special, and celebrate every day to the fullest! I try to! Page 8 Friday April 24, 2015 YOUR SPIRITUAL CORNER Jesus said, “Where two or three come together in My name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20) God loves to be where His people are. His Holy Spirit dwells in each one of them, but when believers come near each other, something heavenly happens—not only does He dwell in them, but He also fills the distance between them. In this atmosphere, the impossible becomes possible and love becomes manifest. God urges you to meet together with other believers regularly. He knows what can happen when you do.
