SENIOR NEWSLETTER
Placement Testing for CSUs (Cal States)
If you applied for the CSUs, you will NEED to demonstrate to the school that you have met
their proficiency standards in English and Math. You may do this with your SAT and ACT
scores. However, if you have not met their minimum Math and English test requirements
for the SAT and ACT, you will have to take the CSUs’ placement exam. You will take
one Math placement exam (called the ELM) and/or one English exam (EPT). You
will receive a slip in your 4th period class with further details if you need to take the ELM or
the EPT. Stop by Mr. Vo’s office for more information.
Community College (CC) Registration
Registration for community colleges are now OPEN. Registering for community college is just the
first step! Stop by the library or Ms. Garcia’s office after school every day (except Wednesday) in
order to get help on your application from Jenny, our wonderful counseling intern. There are many
great CCs in the area, such as Orange Coast College (OCC), Golden West College (GWC), Coastline
Community College, Santa Ana College, Cypress College, and more!
If you are planning on going to community college, you must take the placement exam so that the
school will know what math and English level to place you. If you did not take it at Los Amigos,
stop by Ms. Garcia’s office for more information. Check out the following websites:
OCC: http://www.orangecoastcollege.edu/student_services/assessmentcenter/Pages/default.aspx

Financial Aid Application Update
Once your parents/family file for taxes for this year, you must update your financial aid
application with the new tax numbers. You will click on Make a Correction. Please stop by
Ms. Garcia or Mr. Vo’s office if you need any help!
f you were unable to create an electronic PIN in order to sign your FAFSA, you must print a
signature page to be signed by one of your parents and to be mailed out to:
Federal Student Aid Programs
P.O. Box 7006 Mt.
Vernon, IL 62864-0076
You must turn this in AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
I missed the deadline…
If you missed the March 2nd deadline for your
financial aid applications, you are no longer
eligible for California state funding. However,
you are still eligible for federal funding and
college funding so it is still important for you
to do your applications.
Create College Portal
Once you have submitted your applications, some schools will send you a confirmation email and a
follow-up email asking you to create a portal account. This account is extremely important as it will
be how each school will communicate with you. Write your account information down in order to
remember it and be sure to check this account at least once a week for updates throughout the
school year. Please send in your transcripts even if you have missed the deadline.
Information for Students going to a UC
For the UCs, you must submit your Statement of Interest to Register (SIR) to the
college that you are planning on attending to next year by May 1st.
Some schools offer some sort of fee waiver so that you do not have to pay the SIR fee.

If you are attending a UC, you must take the Entry Level Writing Exam, unless you
have passed AP Language with a score of 3 or better, get a score of 680 or better on your SAT
writing, or get a 30 or higher on your ACT. You can sign up for the test through your UC
portal. For more information, please go to: http://www.ucop.edu/elwr/

resumes and college applications. You must have at least a 2.5 un-weighted GPA to apply and the
deadline will vary for each month. You can pick up applications at Ms. Ramos’ office in the Mbuilding or Ms. Garcia’s office in the library. Be apart of Lobo history today!
