This Weekend in Beaver Creek April 10, 2015 Dear Neighbors With a little advance planning we can enjoy the play, For His Brother's Crime, at Beaver Creek School; the Buzzard Bonfire in the Beaver Creek Baptist Church parking lot and east end of the recycling area; and the Trek for Tech starting in the Village Square in Lake Montezuma. It's a good weekend to visit with a lot of your neighbors at these events. On Wednesday the last series of free Microsoft Office classes begins at the Beaver Creek Library. If you've been putting this off, please consider taking advantage of this opportunity to get help using Word, Excel and PowerPoint. On Thursday there will be a presentation and possible solutions on the current situation with increasing taxes and tuition and declining enrollment at Yavapai College Verde Campus which will be held at the Red Rock Ranger Station located two miles east of VOC on SR 179. With comfortable shoes on feet & ready to see everything, . . . . . the calendar crew This Weekend in Beaver Creek Friday/Saturday, 4/10 & 4/11-For His Brother's Crime, A Thrillin', Chillin', Old-Time Melodrama in One Act, presented by the Lake Montezuma Women's Civic Club Players will be performed on Friday at 7 PM and on Saturday at 2 PM in the Beaver Creek School Cafetorium at 4810 E Beaver Creek Rd. Tickets are on sale at various locations. $5 until April 9 and $7 at the door. Saturday, 4/11-The Buzzard Bonfire returns to Rimrock from 5 to 7 PM in the parking lot of the Beaver Creek Baptist Church. The celebration is sponsored by the Beaver Creek Kiwanis, Key Club, Builders' Club and KKids. Please come enjoy music, games, food and fun. S'mores, hot dogs and more will be available for purchase, music by Beaver Creek Philharmonic. Other organizations are encouraged to bring a table or a game and participate. Please contact Carol Keeton at 928-6064050 for further information. Sunday, 4/12-The Trek for Tech 5K Fun Run Walk starts at Noon from Rollins Park in Lake Montezuma. Entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for children. No charge for children under 5 or adults 80 or over. This is your opportunity to help support the computer and technology classes offered at Beaver Creek Public Library. Registration forms are available throughout the community or register online at https://sites.google.com/site/trekfortech. Enter by April 1 to be guaranteed a t-shirt. Upcoming Special Events in April Wednesdays, 4/15 thru 5/20-FREE Microsoft Office Computer Training Classes will be offered at the Beaver Creek Library from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on these dates. Please register in advance at the Librarian Desk. This is the last session of classes from the LSTA grant. For more information call 928-567-4034. (See flyer below.) Thursday, 4/16-The Community College Citizens Advocates will meet from 3 to 4:30 PM at the Red Rock Ranger Station. This is your opportunity to participate and have your ideas on making changes to improve Yavapai College Verde Campus services and enrollment heard. The Yavapai College District Governing Board District plans to approve a 2% increase in property taxes for fiscal year 2016 and has already increased tuition and fees by about 4% for that year. Tuesday, 4/21-The Montezuma Crossing Trail proposal OPEN HOUSE starts at 5:30 PM in the Beaver Creek School Boardroom. The Beaver Creek Trails Coalition is hosting a public OPEN HOUSE facilitated by Joe Winfield of the National Park Service to present and gather feedback about a new trail proposal to serve our community. The proposed Montezuma Crossing Trail would connect Montezuma Well National Monument with trails on the Coconino National Forest, and also link key areas of the Beaver Creek Community. A presentation of the trail concept will be followed by a forum for questions and comments. Representatives from Yavapai County Government, Coconino National Forest, and the National Park Service will be present. All members of the public are welcome: please attend if you wish to get more information or make a comment regarding this proposal. Regularly Scheduled Meetings & Activities Through April 15 Friday, 4/10--The BC Preservation & Historical Society meets at 9:00 AM in the BC Adult Center Library. The guest speaker this month will be Historian Bill Cowan. He will present "The Life and Times of Wales Arnold" who was the first Anglo settler on Beaver Creek. Saturday, 4/11--Free food is available at Beaver Creek School from 7:45 to 9 AM. Food is always available the second Saturday of each month for distribution to everyone and during the month as needed. Monday, 4/13--The Rimrockers will meet for lunch at 11:30 AM at Vintages Grill. Monday, 4/13--The Beaver Creek School Governing Board meets at 6:00 PM in the school board room. This meeting will be devoted to planning the annual Independence Day Parade, Celebration & Duck Race.
