He began by providing a quick review of the history of the facility and why the Laramie Rivers Conservation District (LRCD) was the entity responsible for the project. The project began with financial sup[port from the city council ($9.5K), county commissioners ($10K) and the beautification committee ($15K). The project received for a $200K EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant and used a DEQ Volunteer Remediation Program to remove outside trash, tires, and barrels of oil, grease, etc. Some preliminary environmental evaluation studies have been completed that have investigated the metals in soils, metals in groundwater, PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [bad stuff]) in soils, DROs & GROs (gasoline range organics and diesel range organics [more bad stuff]) in groundwater and trace asbestos in soils. They were awarded a $335K HUD Community Development Block Grant to demolish the buildings that could only be used on property not to be taken by WYDOT for the Harney St. Viaduct Project. To date the LRCD has spent $170K from mill levy/reserves/contributions over 3 years for purchase, security, characterization & cleanup. Another $569K from pass-through grants from EPA, DEQ and HUD. Total so far is ~$740K spent on project and this is before the actual “brownfield cleanup”! Past President Jerry inducted our new member Mike Cunningham. Welcome Mike! Guests from Last Meeting Quin Malm (James’ son) and Dan Boddicker Birthdays this month None Don’t forget to buy a 50/50 ticket and be a winner! Mike won the 50/50 raffle and will draw for the A next week. One reason why computers can do more work than people is that they never have to stop and answer the phone. The only people who listen to both sides of an argument are the neighbors. English is strange: When you "run out" of something, you "run out" to get more. I started out with nothing. I still have most of it. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. - Allen Saunders
