Legislation in order to graduate. If Administrative Law is used for this requirement, it may not
be used as a Group A course.
Placement interviews for our externship programs ordinarily take place between registration
and the first day of classes. The final approval of a placement rests with the placement site.

Suggestions and Explanations from Dean Laity:
Faculty Transitions. Professor Charles Cantrell has retired, Professor Jean Giles has moved with
her family to Indiana, and Professor Barry Johnson will be on research leave during the Fall 2015 semester.
New Adjunct Faculty. New additions to our adjunct faculty include Professor Charles Alden
(Evidence), Professor Leah Avey (Employment Law), Professor Amir Farzaneh (Immigration Law),
Professor Irving Faught (The Fledging Enterprise), Professor Joshua Minner (Policing and the Law),
Professor Mary Richard (Healthcare Law), and Professor Courtney Warmington (Legal Profession).
Prerequisites. Many courses have prerequisites. Please see the course descriptions on the law
school website for those prerequisites.
May 2016 Graduates. Please note that the courses offered during the fall semester are your last
opportunity to satisfy the upper-class writing requirement. If you do not satisfy the writing requirement by
the end of the fall semester, you will have automatically deferred your graduation to December of 2015.
First-Year Students Interested in the Law Protecting Children. In your third year of law school,
you may have the opportunity to enroll in the Interdisciplinary Program in Child Abuse and Neglect. This is
a two-semester program conducted at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, which is located here
in Oklahoma City just south of the state capitol building. To prepare for the program, please consider
enrolling in Family Law during either the Fall 2015 semester or the Spring 2016 semester. This course is not
strictly a prerequisite, but it is strongly recommended by the law school faculty.
Certificate Programs. We offer a number of certificate programs. As you choose your courses for
next semester, please consider whether a certificate program is right for you. The requirements for the
certificates are listed on the law school’s website.
Six Group A Courses Required of Some Students. If your cumulative grade point average has ever
been less than 2.3333, you may be required to complete six Group A courses rather than three. For the details,
please see the academic regulation entitled “Academic Probation, Dismissal, and Triggering of Additional
Requirements” on our website.
Possible Cancellation of a Course. A minimum enrollment of ten students is usually required for
each course. A course might be cancelled because of insufficient enrollment. In addition, I may have to
cancel a course taught by a member of our adjunct faculty if the total enrollment in adjunct-taught courses
exceeds a limit set by the AALS.
Maximum Course Loads. A full-time student is limited to a course load of sixteen credit hours
during the fall semester, and a part-time student is limited to ten credit hours. Please see the academic
regulations on our website for minimum course loads and the effect of outside work on permitted course
loads.
Next Year’s Second-Year Full-Time Students. Second-year full-time students choose two courses
for the fall. Please note that you must take Corporations, either Administrative Law or Legislation, and at
least three Group A courses before you graduate. (Some students may need to take six Group A courses;
please refer to the Academic Regulation entitled “Academic Probation, Dismissal, and Triggering of
Additional Requirements” on our website.) Corporations, Administrative Law, Legislation, or one of the

Group A courses might be good choices for you. Or, you might want to start a sequence of electives required
for one of our certificate programs. Those programs are described on our website.
Open Times During the Week. In general, there are no courses scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
or from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. any day of the week. These timeslots have been set aside for special programs,
academic achievement and bar preparation sessions, and the meetings of student organizations. However,
there are a few courses that begin at 5:30 pm. These are courses that meet in two-hour blocks of time and
need to conclude by 7:30 pm for the next wave of courses.
Finally, Check the Exam Schedule. Please check the exam schedule before you finalize your
course selections. If you choose two or more courses that have exams on the same day, you must take those
exams as scheduled.
