Teaching Fellow Position 2015-2016 Posting date: March 30, 2015 Closing date: April 7, 2015 The Faculty of Law, Queen’s University requests applications from suitably qualified graduate students interested in a teaching fellow position for the following course: Law 135AB, 136AB: Introduction to Legal Skills The ILS course will offer first-year students a comprehensive introduction to Lawyering Skills, including skills they will need as students, such as legal research and writing; and skills they will need as lawyers, such as drafting legal documents, dealing with clients and client files, ethics, and introduction to oral advocacy. This is a full-year course, and will include large lecture sessions as well as small group work and experience-based learning. Students will be asked to complete a series of assignments that will increase in complexity as the year progresses. Applicants must have a law degree from a common law jurisdiction, and expertise in the topics of study in the course, including experience with the legal research and writing tools relevant to the practice and study of law in Canada. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the PhD program who have completed their Qualifying Examination and who have experience in the practice of law. The applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills and a superb command of written and spoken English. Each instructor will lead two small tutorial group sessions scheduled on separate days of the week, and in addition will deliver some plenary sessions. These teaching duties, together with office hours to meet with students, will require the incumbent to be on campus a minimum of two days a week during the fall and winter teaching terms. Graduate Teachings Assistants and Teaching Fellows at Queen's University are governed by the Collective Agreement for Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows between PSAC Local 901 and Queen's University. Remuneration will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Appointments are subject to enrolment figures and budgetary approval.
