Call for Abstracts Call for Abstracs The Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG) is hosting its 48th National Conference in Alice Springs from Wednesday 4 to Friday 6 November 2015. The AAG Conference is truly multidisciplinary and brings together people with a wide range of professional interests. This unique meeting of the minds offers delegates an exciting opportunity to make new connections with people and ideas. The AAG 2015 National Conference Scientific Committee welcome submission of papers on the following aspects. The theme for the 2015 Conference is “Place, Spirit, Heart: Exploring Experiences of Ageing”. The theme was chosen to reflect some of the characteristics of living and working in remote Australia. Holding the conference in the heart of Australia will provide delegates with an opportunity for both personal and professional reflection. It will be an opportunity to explore the variety of experiences of ageing, especially for people living in rural and remote locations. Tabletop Conversations Tabletop conversations will involve multiple presenters in a session where each individual presents their work 4 times to a different audience. Presenters are seated at round tables of 8-10 delegates and will have 6 minutes to present followed by 4 minutes for discussion around the table before moving to the next table to repeat their presentation. This is a unique opportunity for brief presentations, perhaps on new projects or works in progress, with the chance for presenters to be creative, receive feedback and practice presenting 3. Symposium This format is relevant to a theme with a multidisciplinary focus with individual presenters from diverse research or practice groups. As well as individual abstracts for each presenter, the convenor should submit an overview abstract outlining the theme and rationale for the symposium including a list of the symposium participants. Poster Presentation Posters will be displayed for set periods during the conference with an allocated time for the presenting author to be available for queries. A prize will be offered for the most outstanding poster presentation. to a supportive small group, and for delegates to network with the members of their table and discuss the topic directly with the presenter. AAG - Australian Association of Gerontology aagconference.aag.asn.au Abstract Submission Guidelines General Policies and Requirements for Submission of Abstracts All abstracts must be submitted online via the conference website www.aagconference.asn.au All abstracts must be received no later than 5pm AEST on Tuesday 21st April 2015 The main presenting author must be the one to submit the abstract. This is the person all correspondence will be sent to, and, if accepted, this is the name that will appear in the conference program. All submitting authors will be notified of the results of the review of abstracts by Thursday 19th May 2015 It is a condition of acceptance that all presenters must be registered delegates and have paid the conference registration fee, at least for the day of their presentation. AAG - Australian Association of Gerontology All presenters must be registered by 10 July, 2015. All accepted presenters who register by this deadline, and register for the full conference, will be eligible for early bird member rates. Presenters must be available to present on any of the conference days, as assigned by the Scientific Committee. All abstracts must contain original work. All abstracts must be prepared according to the guidelines provided. Incomplete or incorrect submissions will not be considered. It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that the abstract is submitted correctly and received by the deadline. Abstracts will be considered for all presentation types, and may be accepted as a different format than how it was submitted. Submitted Symposia Researchers, clinicians and policy makers are invited to submit symposia with a common theme that fits within the overall theme of the conference. Submitted symposia will undergo the same review process as all abstracts. Up to 4 presenters can speak within the symposium. Each presenting author must submit an abstract for a symposia and mention when directed the Symposia they are presenting at. In addition, nominate a session chair (independent to or from within the speaker group) by simply stating “Session Chair” when directed. The above outlined guidelines and the instructions below apply to Sympsosia as well. aagconference.aag.asn.au Author Instructions for Abstract Submission For those who have presented at an AAG Conference previously, there are a few changes in 2015 in relation to the way abstracts are submitted. We suggest that you print these instructions and have them close by for reference when you submit your abstract online. Before you go Online/ Pre Online Preparation Before you go to submit your abstract online, it is suggested that you prepare a folder which has all the following sections required to successfully complete your submission. The abstract title should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals. Authors The format for authors’ is first name, initial then surname. The presenting author should be listed first, with co-authors then listed alphabetically. Do not include degrees or professional titles (e.g. Dr, Prof., etc) or post nominals. Abstracts must not contain figures or tables. Footnotes or superscript numbers within the body of your abstract is allowed. Use standard abbreviations only. Within the body of the abstract, when using abbreviations spell out the name in full at the first mention and follow with the abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract. Capitalise the first letter of trade names. Abstract Text The body of the abstract should be no more than 300 words (including references). Sub-headings eg Introduction, Method, Results, Conclusions etc may be included if required, however they will be included in the word count. AAG - Australian Association of Gerontology Note that you will not need to upload your abstract online. You will need to copy form word and paste your abstract into the online form. Besides the key components of the abstract outlined above, you will need to prepare: Tweet A short statement of approximately 120 characters/ 20 words on the most unique feature/outcome of your presentation. This will be used to promote your individual abstract. Implications In 50 words or less you will need to highlight the practical and/or theoretical implications of the presentation. Photo A high resolution jpeg photo of the main author presenting the paper at the conference (this will be included in the conference program along with the abstracts once accepted) Bio A short 120 word bio of the main author presenting the paper at the conference (this will be included in the conference program along with the abstracts once accepted) aagconference.aag.asn.au Submitting your abstract Online Once you have prepared your abstract and the other requirements offline, follow the following steps to submit your abstract online. Stage 1 – Create an Account 1. Visit the conference website www. aagconference.asn.au 2. Click on the Abstracts tab in the main navigation and then click on submit your abstract button 3. You will be directed to a login page. Here you will need to create an account for yourself and agree to the privacy policy before you can proceed Note Currinda, is a commonly used software for a number of conferences. If you have submitted an abstract for another conference using the Currinda platform, you will be directed to login using your credentials you have set up before. If you do not remember your details, click on the forgotten password link. This will allow you to reset your password to continue Stage 2 – Submit Abstract 1. Once you have created an account, you will be directed to start submitting your abstract. Click the Submit New button 2. You will be asked to reconfirm your person details and again accept the privacy policy 3. You will then be asked to accept the terms and conditions AAG - Australian Association of Gerontology 4. You will then be directed to select the type of presentation (Oral, Poster, Table Top, Symposia). Here you will also choose from one of the 5 broad themes of the conference i.e. --Health and Medical --Service Delivery and Workforce --Environment and Community --Social and Emotional Wellbng --Policy and Planning You will also be asked to enter key words for your presentation 5. The next section you will be required to input a few additional questions essential for your submission. --If you are presenting part of the symposia, you will be required to enter the title of the symposia (not a Compulsory field) --Enter a twitter feed of approximately 120 characters/ 20 words which you have drafted (Compulsory field) --Add a high resolution picture of the main presenter (Compulsory field) 6. The next step is to add the title of the presentation – remember, the title should be no more than 10 words 7. The next step is to add all the authors and co-authors as required. To add multiple affiliations to the same author, click on the organisation box and choose add new organisation. You will also be required to tick the box for against the author who is presenting the paper 8. The next step is to add the body of the abstract text. The word limit is 300 words. References may also be added as required in the text box below (not included in word count). Each reference must be on a new line (in a new box). Once you have finished adding the content, click Save Content and Proceed 9. Here you will be able to preview your abstracts and submit – click on the finalise submission and return to dashboard button --Enter the practical and/or theoretical implications of the presentation (Compulsory field) --Select your AV requirements (not a Compulsory field) --Add a 150 word profile of the main presenter (Compulsory field) aagconference.aag.asn.au
