Please submit this entry form by April 1, 2015. If the entry is by anyone in the Child or Youth categories, a parent
or guardian must sign for an individual submission. If the entry is a team effort in the Child or Youth category, then
an adult sponsor must sign the form. There is no fee to enter the contest.

2015 Long Grove Park District Bird Contest Rules
DATES
 Registration form to be submitted by Wednesday, April 1.
 Entries must be delivered to the Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Center, 3849 Old McHenry Road, Long
Grove, no later than Thursday, April 16. On these days, someone will be available to receive your entry:
o Wednesday, April 15, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM
o Thursday, April 16, between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM
o To arrange for drop off at another day/time, please call the Park District office at 847-438-4743.
The office is staffed by part time employees, so leave a message and your call will be returned.
 Friday, April 17. Judging [closed to the public]
 Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19- Public display and Silent Auction throughout the “For the Birds”
Weekend events.
CONSTRUCTION and DISPLAY
 All entries must be labeled with the name of the entrant(s) and category (Youth, Teen, or Adult).
o Place the label on the back or bottom.
o Please provide a title for your creation!
o If it is designed as a functional birdhouse or feeder, it is helpful to include a note about the bird(s) it
is designed to attract.
 All entries must be portable.
 Any non-toxic, non-living materials may be used for construction.
 Entries should be able to stand alone when placed upon a display table. If they cannot stand on their own,
provide a stand to help display your entry.
 Original entries should be designed and constructed by the entrant (with appropriate parent supervision
for the Youth and Teen groups). [You may also purchase and donate a commercially-produced item, but it
will not be included in judging.]
 Both individuals and groups may submit more than one entry.
JUDGING
 Judges selected by the Park District will select winners in each category.
 Decision of the judges is final.
 Judges will include these criteria in their evaluations:
o Imaginative theme or concept and exceptional use of form, texture, and/or color, composition, and
execution.
o Craftsmanship.
o For entries designed as functional bird houses: usability for birds (hole, roof, chamber, ease of
cleaning, etc.).
o For entries designed as décor only: aesthetics, suitability for display (materials and construction
that will not fall apart, etc.).

DISPOSITION
 All entries are considered donations and become property of the Long Grove Park District.
 All proceeds from the Silent Auction are for the support of the Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Center and
Long Grove Park District.
 Entries not purchased during the Silent Auction will be retained by the Long Grove Park District and may
be displayed, used, and/or sold at other times.
