Amen. Reading Song of Solomon 4:1-16 Reader: Martin Gamble 1 Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead. 2 Your teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes that have come up from the washing, all of which bear twins, and not one among them has lost its young. 3 Your lips are like a scarlet thread, and your mouth is lovely. Your cheeks are like halves of a pomegranate behind your veil. 4 Your neck is like the tower of David, built in rows of stone; on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warrio rs. 5 Your two breasts are lik e two fawns, twins of a gazelle, that graze among the lilies. 6 Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, I will go away to the mountain of myrrh and the hill of frankincense. 7 You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. 8 Come with me from Lebanon, my bride; come with me from Lebanon. Depart from the peak of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards. 9 You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. 10 How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice! 11 Your lips drip nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your tongue; 3 the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon. A gard en locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed. 13 Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, 14 nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all choice spices— 15 a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon. 12 16 Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flo w. Reader: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Please stand for the Gospel. Gospel Matthew 5:27-30 Reader: All: Reader: All: The Lord be with you. Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Reader: Cliff Roach “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 2 9 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. Reader: The Gospel of Christ. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. 4 Sermon "Sex and Lust" The Rev. Celebrant: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? All: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Celebrant: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? All: I believe in God the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of the People Please sit or kneel. Led by: Lorna Beatty Confession and Absolution Celebrant: Dear friends in Christ, God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy; he welcomes sinners and invites them to his table. Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness. Most merciful God 5 All: we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbour s as our selves. We are truly sorr y and we humbly r epent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Celebrant: Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen. Offertory Worship The offering plate we pass is a way for members of Little Trinity to contribute out of their financial resources to God’s work. This is work that goes on right here in downtown Toronto and around the world. The Prayer over the Gifts Celebrant: Gracious God, all things come from you, and you teach us to be generous with what we have. We pray that our gifts may be wisely used for the ministry of the gospel and the relief of those in need, for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. All: Amen. The Doxology All: 6 Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Praise Him all creatures here below ! Praise Him above ye heavenly host ! Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Communion The Great Thanksgiving Celebrant: All: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Celebrant: All: Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant: All: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Celebrant: We give you thanks and praise, almighty God, through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer. He is your living Word, through whom you have created all things. Please sit or kneel. By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh of the Virgin Mary and shared our human nature. He lived and died as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. In fulfillment of your will he stretched out his hands in suffering, to bring release to those who place their hope in you; and so he won for you a holy people. He chose to bear our griefs and sorrows, and to give up his life on the cross, that he might shatter the chains of evil and death, and banish the darkness of sin and despair. By his resurrection he brings us into the light of your presence. Now with all creation we raise our voice to proclaim the glory of your name. 7 All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth of your glory are full. Hosanna hosanna hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Celebrant: Holy and gracious God, accept our praise, through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; who on the night he was handed over to suffering and death, took bread and gave you thanks, saying, “Take, and eat: this is my body which is broken for you.” In the same way he took the cup, saying, “This is my blood which is shed for you. When you do this, you do it in memory of me.” Remembering, therefo re, his death and resurrection, we offer you this bread and this cup, giving thanks that you have made us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. We ask you to send your Holy Spirit upon the offering of your holy Church. Gather into one all who share in these sacred mysteries, filling them with the Holy Spirit and confirming their faith in the truth, that together we may praise you and give you glory through your Servant, Jesus Christ. All: 8 All glo ry and honour are yours, Father and Son, with the Holy Spirit in the holy Church, now and for ever. Amen. The Lord's Prayer Celebrant: As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread Celebrant: All: Celebrant: All: Celebrant: Lord, we died with you on the cross. Now we are raised to new life. We were buried in your tomb. Now we share in your resurrection. Live in us, that we may live in you. Communion Celebrant: The gifts of God for the people of God. This year, the focus of event is on sport, recreational, and leisu re as an homage to the Pan Am/Para Pan Am Games. Due to the high number of venue applications related to this special theme, Little T was asked to tak e a break from participating. They volunteer at Drop In Centres, local Churches, collect and deliver needed goods and food, regularly spend time just listening as a heart is poured out, visit the poor and drive the sick to appointments, praying for and with them and caring for them as Jesus' hands and feet on this earth. We have asked several women to tell us what and why they do what they do and to tell us some of the stories of how they do it. We are looking forward to learning from them and maybe even finding a new direction where God would have us volunteer too.
