School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Unit Frequently Asked Questions – Course Registration A) General Matters A1) I am uncertain of the courses that I need to register. What should I do? Students are advised to review the programme structure in MAE website and carefully plan the semesters’ courses before registration. Alternatively, they can seek assistance from Assistant Chair or registration advisor for academic advice (Refer to Help & Assistance list). A2) How should I plan for my timetable if I am currently on Academic warning/probation? Take a lighter workload and clear the failed courses soonest possible. You are not allowed to overload any courses as well. A3) I am an undergraduate full-time student. Can I take a corresponding course that is offered under part-time classes? No. Students are not allowed to register for courses that are offered to part-time students and viceversa. A4) I am away on exchange programmes. Can the Office help me with course registration? In view of the time difference, students on exchange programmes are given extended timing from 0930hr – 2200hr (Singapore time) to do course registration. An email notification will be sent out to you by Office of Academic Services nearer to the registration period. A5) I missed my personalized registration timeslot. You can register from 5pm – 10pm on the same day as your stipulated registration date. Alternatively, you can register during add/drop period. B) Timetabling B1) How do I find out the latest update on timetables and course registration? Any changes to the class timetable will be informed via email. Students are also advised to check MAE website for updated information. B2) Can I take courses with timetable clashes? No. Students are not allowed to read courses with clash in class schedule. Please re-select other courses. B3) I am unable to select the index number. You might have selected the index number that is not under MAE. MAE index numbers start with 23XXX. Alternatively, the selected index number has no more vacancy. Please make a new selection. B4) Can I read the pre-requisite course and higher level course concurrently? No. It is a must for students to be equipped with the relevant knowledge before proceeding to advanced level course. Else, it will put your academic performance at risk and affect your CGPA and honors classification. B5) I am unable to register for other courses unless I register the failed courses first. What should I do? If you intend to read the failed courses in next offering semester, please complete the registration form and the School will assist. B6) Can I change my tutorial group? Please change your tutorial group during add/drop period, provided there are available vacancies. B7) I am a 2nd year student. Can I read Year 4 courses which have no pre-requisite? No. Students can only read courses which are one year ahead of their study year. C) Overloading of courses C1) I want to overload my semester’s workload. How should I go about doing it? If you plan to read more courses that exceed the maximum workload (on top of auto load an normal load), you need to fill in the overloading form and submit to MAE Undergraduate Office or email: mae_reg@ntu.edu.sg with the following supporting documents: - Degree audit - Planned Class/Exam Timetable Request to overload courses is subjected to Assistant Chair’s approval. You will be informed of the outcome via email. C2) Can I take on additional unrestricted electives if have fulfilled the requirements? Yes, you may. Please follow the paperwork procedures as stated in C1 (above). C3) Can I read another course under Prescribed electives or Major PE if I have cleared the requirements? No. Students are not allowed to read additional courses under these categories once requirements are met.
