FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Product Number 285 Sizes Available 100 tabs Probiotic Complex Overview Double Strength Probiotic Complex with Acidophilus contains a unique combination of several key microorganisms designed to support and maintain the gastrointestinal tract’s microflora. Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms that may beneficially affect the host upon ingestion by improving the balance of the intestinal microflora. The dietary use of live microorganisms has a long history dating back thousands of years. The father of modern immunology, Élie Metchnikoff, spoke highly about the possible health benefits of the lactic acid-bacteria (LAB) Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus in his writings at the turn of the 20th century, stating that consumption of live bacteria, such as Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, was beneficial for gastrointestinal health, as well as for health in general, and for longevity. Recent research suggests that certain live microorganisms may promote healthy immune function and have anticarcinogenic effects, as well as other health benefits. The gastrointestinal tract represents a complex ecosystem in which a delicate balance exists between the intestinal microflora and the host. The intestinal microflora are important for maturation of the immune system, the development of healthy intestinal function and in order to maintain a balanced inflammatory response. The microflora reinforce the barrier function of the intestines, helping in the prevention of the attachment of microorganisms capable of causing disease and the entry of allergens. Some members of the microflora may contribute to the body’s requirements for certain vitamins, including Biotin, pantothenic acid and Vitamin B12. Our Double Strength Probiotic Complex with Acidophilus utilizes freeze dried cultures and is shelf stable; refrigeration is recommended after opening. Research Indicates » Promotes healthy immune function » Supports a balanced inflammatory response » Promotes healthy intestinal function particularly against lactose intolerance and rotavirus-induced diarrhea in infants and children Recommended Dosage 9 Take 1 tablet, two times daily. Cautions • Alteration of the microbial flora of the intestine associated with antibiotic use, disease, and aging can negatively affect its beneficial role; therefore consult a health care practitioner before use. FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Product Number 481 482 Sizes Available 90 vcaps 180 vcaps Nuzyme Digestive Enzyme Complex Overview Nuzyme is a vegetarian sourced digestive enzyme complex. Products classified as digestive enzymes help facilitate digestion, absorption of nutrients, maintain the proper pH in the gastrointestinal tract, and act as a barrier against invasion of viruses and bacteria. There are seven basic types of digestive enzymes, each with various subclassifications and differing functions. The basic enzymes and their specific functions are as follows: amylase digests starches; cellulase digests fibers; lactase digests dairy products; lipases digest fats, oils and triglycerides; maltase digests starch and grains; protease digests proteins; and sucrase digests sugars. Although Nuzyme features vegetarian sourced enzymes, it is important to note that some other enzymes are extracted from animal sources such as the pancreas, liver and stomach of cows or pigs. Examples of animal enzymes include oxbile, trypsin, chymotrypsin, rennin, pepsin, and pancreatin. Nuzyme does include other plant-based enzymes such as bromelain from pineapple and papain from papaya. Poor digestive function has been linked to many symptoms and a wide variety of clinical digestive conditions. It is also important to note that there have been few clinical studies regarding the use of digestive enzyme products in the treatment of specific digestive conditions. The use of digestive enzymes to treat symptoms and health conditions associated with digestive problems come mostly from health care practitioner observations, anecdotal reports and manufacturer’s product claims. Even though there is a lack of scientific research to verify the effectiveness of digestive enzymes, these products have become widely accepted and used worldwide for assisting healthy digestion. Research Indicates » May support healthy digestion » May help reduce symptoms associated with lactose intolerance » Studies have indicated a significant reduction of gas and bloating associated with the ingestion of high calorie, high fat meals when taking certain enzymes Recommended Dosage 9 Take 2 capsules up to three times daily with meals. Cautions • If you are pregnant or lactating, consult a health care practitioner prior to taking this product. • Note: Everyone responds differently to digestive enzyme products, 2 capsules with each meal is a general guideline. FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Product Number 102 Sizes Available 60 softgels Mega Potency Fish Oil Rich in Omega-3 EFAs † Overview Two essential fatty acids (more commonly known as EFAs) essential to human health are omega-3 and omega-6. By far, the best type of omega-3 fat is found in fish. The omega-3 in fish is high in two fatty acids crucial to human health, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). These two fatty acids are pivotal in preventing many diseases. The human brain also relies heavily on DHA; low DHA levels have been linked to depression, schizophrenia, memory loss, and a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers are now also linking inadequate intake of these omega-3 fats in pregnant women to premature birth and low birth weight, and to hyperactivity in children. Routine consumption of Mega Potency Fish Oil is highly encouraged and recognized as a key ingredient in improving health. Our Mega Potency Fish Oil is derived primarily from sardine, mackerel and anchovy, caught in the deep ocean waters off the coast of Peru. Mega Potency Fish Oil delivers 360 mg of EPA and 240 mg of DHA in each softgel. Purity • The specification for the mercury in fish oil is a maximum of 0.005 parts per million or 0.005 mg/kg. There is one gram (which is the equivalent of 1000mg) of fish oil in each softgel; therefore the amount of mercury per softgel is guaranteed to be less than 0.000005 mg. The ppm will always be 0.05 ppm of the fill material. • The molecular distillation processing of our Mega Potency Fish Oil removes any and all dioxins that may be in the oil (tested at less than 1 part per trillion). Dioxin content is measured in a complicated TEQ system and our Mega Potency Fish Oil is guaranteed to meet all USA standards and the stringent European Union (EU) standards. These EU standards are the toughest in the world. Research Indicates » Instrumental in regulating inflammation, blood pressure and thickness, hormone production, and the activities of the immune and central nervous systems » Important for infants (and a developing fetus) for proper development of the brain and retina of the eyes » Studies suggest that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be linked to omega-3 deficiency » Deficiencies of omega-3 may also be linked to depression » May be helpful for symptoms of Crohn’s disease » Researchers think omega-3 can help prevent breast, prostate and colon cancers » Supports cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure, relaxing blood vessels, and lowering cholesterol levels » Has been shown to decrease elevated serum triglycerides » May also reduce pain for sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis » Deficiencies have also been found in people who have allergies, asthma, and skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis Recommended Dosage Typical daily dosage is 500 – 3000 mgs; take 1 softgel up to three times daily with a meal. FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Product Number 276 Sizes Available 180 vcaps Psyllium Husks 500mg Overview Psyllium Husks come from the small reddish brown to black seeds of the Plantago Psyllium plant. Odorless and tasteless, Psyllium is a member of the family Plantaginaceae, and is not related to wheat. There are several species of the plant, but the seed husks from Plantago ovata, also known as blonde Psyllium, have the best quality and highest fiber content. Plantago grows as a weed in several places around the world and is cultivated for commercial use in Spain, France, India, Pakistan and other countries. Psyllium Husks are pure dietary fiber, composed mostly of hemicellulose. They are not digested in the small intestine, but are partially broken down in the colon, where they act as a food source for friendly flora. Mostly, Psyllium Husks act as a sponge in the intestinal tract, swelling as it absorbs water and waste material in the bowels. This forms a soft, bulky mass that passes through the colon more quickly (keeping potentially toxic waste moving in the colon) and evacuates more smoothly and easily. According to the Food and Drug Administration, Psyllium Husks may also help lower the risk of heart disease. Our Psyllium Husks 500mg offers 1.7 grams of fiber per serving and is available in 180 count vegetarian capsules. Research Indicates » Fiber is important for normal bowel function » May support healthy blood pressure by enhancing the excretion of sodium » A study has shown benefits for Psyllium Husks in improving diarrhea caused by certain medications » Studies suggest that Psyllium Husks may support healthy cholesterol balance » The Food and Drug Administration has approved Psyllium Husks to reduce cardiovascular disease risk with recent studies confirming risk reduction » Studies suggest that Psyllium Husks may support healthy blood sugar balance Recommended Dosage 9 Typical daily dosage ranges from 1 – 4 grams; take 1 to 4 capsules daily with at least 8 ounces of fluid. Note: Psyllium Husks should be taken with one to two additional glasses of water as it can expand in the throat and cause an uncomfortable sensation. Cautions • If you have chronic constipation, bowel obstruction, an ulcer, diabetes, are obese, or are pregnant or lactating, consult a health care practitioner prior to using this product. • Some individuals experience an allergic reaction when taking Psyllium Husks. Some people may also have respiratory reactions to Psyllium dust. Odorless and tasteless, there are several species of the plant but seed husks from Plantago ovata (also known as blonde psyllium) are of the best quality and contain the highest fiber content. Psyllium is rich in soluble fiber and similar to the type of fiber found in oats, wheat, and barley; however, psyllium is gluten-free unlike wheat. As a pure dietary fiber, psyllium is composed mostly of hemicellulose. It is not digested in the small intestine and passes through the body until it is partially broken down in the colon where psyllium is utilized as a food source for friendly flora. Mostly, psyllium acts as a sponge in the intestinal tract, swelling as it absorbs water and waste material in the bowels. This forms a soft, bulky mass that passes through the colon more quickly (keeping potentially toxic waste moving in the colon) and evacuates more smoothly and easily. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the following label claim for psyllium; “Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 7 grams of soluble fiber per day may reduce the risk of heart disease.” One serving of 100% Organic Psyllium provides 8 grams of this soluble fiber. 100% Organic Psyllium has been certified organic by Quality Assurance International (QAI). QAI is the most recognized organic certifying body utilized by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Moreover, Organic Psyllium’s ingredients have been cultivated without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers, and contain no additives or artificial sweeteners. This formula has been reviewed and met QAI’s stringent qualification process for purity and potency. FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Product Number 242 Sizes Available 90 tabs Multi-Mineral Overview Our comprehensive formula contains an array of minerals for optimal health. Minerals are inorganic elements composed of only one atom and contain no carbon. Approximately 5% of every cell is made up of minerals; these minerals support the function and structure of the cells. Minerals, just like vitamins, are coenzymes and essential to the activation of enzymes. Nutritionists classify minerals that are essential to life as either major minerals or trace elements. Major minerals are needed in larger amounts (hundreds of milligrams per day) and trace elements are required in much smaller amounts (typically micrograms). As minerals are required for nearly every bodily function, it is of the utmost importance to get the proper amount of minerals for two reasons: to prevent disease and to maintain normal body function. Many nutritionists and researchers believe that the farm soils in the United States, as well as many other regions of the world are considerably depleted of minerals compared to what they had merely 100 years ago. Therefore, supplementation of minerals is a logical option for people seeking optimal health. Our full spectrum Multi-Mineral formula is available in 90 count tablets. Below is the list of ingredients in our Multi-Mineral. The information listed here is abbreviated; for more detailed information, please refer to individual product sheets where available. Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol) Vitamin D (cholecalciferol), is a fat-soluble vitamin often referred to as the “sunshine” vitamin because it is formed in the body by the action of the sun’s ultraviolet rays on the skin. The major biologic function of Vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. It promotes bone mineralization along with a number of other vitamins, minerals, and hormones. Without vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, soft, or misshapen. Calcium Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body; the human body contains approximately 2.5 pounds of this minerals and 99% of this is stored in the bones and teeth. The remainder is in the bloodstream and the fluids surrounding the cells. It is essential to optimal health and has numerous health benefits. Calcium helps with many metabolic processes, and is essential to a wide range of biological functions. Calcium absorption declines with age. If the body does not get enough calcium, it will rob it from the bones, causing the bones to become porous and fragile. Iron Iron is an essential mineral and an important component of proteins involved in oxygen transport and metabolism. Almost two-thirds of the Iron in your body is found in hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to your body’s tissues. Smaller amounts of Iron are found in myoglobin, a protein that helps supply oxygen to muscle; also found in enzymes, Iron assists biochemical reactions in cells. About 15% of the body’s Iron is stored for future needs and mobilized when dietary intake is inadequate. The remainder is in tissues as part of proteins that help the body function. Iodine Iodine is a trace mineral that is essential for healthy thyroid function. Iodine also provides the crucial building blocks for the hormones secreted by the thyroid gland. The availability of iodized salt, the most common source of Iodine, has made Iodine deficiency and its accompanying disorder, goiter, very rare in the United States as well as the developed world. Iodine’s only known function is the role it plays in proper thyroid function. Healthy thyroid function is important for normal metabolism, oxygen consumption and energy production. FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Magnesium Magnesium is essential for hundreds of chemical reactions in the body. It functions as a coenzyme (participating in over 300 enzymatic reactions!) for proper function of nerves and muscles, formation of bones, and energy metabolism. Recent studies suggest that is of particular importance for healthy heart function. It also may help to lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Magnesium works synergistically with calcium by increasing its absorption and may increase bone density as well. In fact, the body stores 60% of its magnesium in the bones, 26% in muscle tissues and the remaining magnesium is stored in the soft tissues of the body. Zinc Zinc is considered an essential trace mineral which participates in more than 300 enzymatic functions in the body. Contributing in all major biochemical pathways and physiological processes, Zinc’s roles include maintenance of genetic material as well as cell division. Zinc is primarily stored in muscle, bones, and skin, with high concentrations in the retina of the eye, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and prostate gland in men. Every cell in the body needs zinc; hundreds of body processes rely upon it. Zinc is needed for normal growth and development. Zinc also has antioxidant properties, and is important to proper maintenance of Vitamin E levels in the blood. It also improves the activity of Vitamin A. Moreover, it is a constituent of the powerful antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD). The body does not manufacture zinc so it is necessary to obtain through diet or supplementation. Selenium Selenium is an essential trace mineral and potent antioxidant. It works synergistically with Vitamin E to protect cells from free radicals. Selenium is an important part of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which works with Vitamin E to help prevent free radical damage to cell membranes. Selenium also protects the body form heavy metal toxicity. It is important to note that Selenium is toxic at doses of more than one milligram (1000mcgs) per day. Copper Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the body. It is an essential component of many enzymes and at least 15 proteins. It is involved in the production of collagen and elastin, and as such is essential to the structural integrity and elasticity of tissues, bones and organs. Copper is also necessary for the maintenance of healthy nerves and joints. It is necessary for the production of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen throughout the body. Copper also aids in the production of energy by helping the body make adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Finally, it is essential to the production of two important enzymes: superoxide dismutase, a powerful antioxidant, and dopamine betahydroxylase which are enzymes that help regulate the metabolism of Vitamin C and the synthesis of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. Manganese Manganese, along with copper and zinc, is an important component of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD). It is also involved in the production of several enzyme systems that influence biological processes. These biological processes help produce collagen, metabolize protein and carbohydrates, and synthesize fat, including cholesterol. Therefore, manganese is essential for growth and maintenance of tissues (particularly skin tissues), cartilage and bones. Manganese is a factor in glucose intolerance and supports the production of certain hormones and neurotransmitters. Chromium Chromium was first discovered as an essential trace element in 1955. In 1959, the mineral was identified as an active component in human nutrition. We now know that Chromium is an essential partner to efficient insulin action. The body of an average healthy individual contains only several milligrams. However, this small amount plays important roles in the enhancement of insulin’s effectiveness, regulation of blood sugar levels, and the activation of various enzymes for energy production. It is thought that most North Americans have some degree of Chromium depletion in their bodies, and the North American diet and eating habits frequently fail to supply sufficient Chromium for daily needs. Molybdenum Molybdenum is a trace element and one of the rarest substances on earth. Small amounts of Molybdenum are found in nearly all the tissues of the human body. The primary function of Molybdenum is that of liver detoxification. Molybdenum is important because it helps to activate certain enzymes, particularly those that metabolize proteins and help to utilize Iron. As such, it may play a part in the prevention of anemia. Adequate levels of Molybdenum are necessary for the proper formation of bones and teeth. Molybdenum is also important for Copper and Sulfur metabolism and is involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates. FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Potassium Potassium is the third most abundant mineral in the body (calcium and phosphorus are the most abundant). Potassium is one of the major electrolytes in the body, along with sodium and chloride. Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals that are critical to proper fluid balance in the body. They are necessary to the regulation of blood pressure and muscle contraction; they also ensure proper function of nerves and kidneys. In fact, these three electrolytes together are important to every chemical process in the body. L-Glutamic Acid Glutamic Acid is a non-essential amino acid, which means that it can be manufactured by the body. It is considered to be nature’s “brain food”, because it is thought to support healthy brain function. Glutamic acid is an important excitatory neurotransmitter, and may be important to the metabolism of sugars and fats. It also helps with the transportation of potassium across the blood-brain barrier. Boron Boron is a trace mineral that has only recently been recognized as being important for human nutrition. Recent research suggests that Boron is important for metabolism and bone health; it may help prevent bone loss and support healthy joint function. The highest concentration of boron is found in the bones and tooth enamel. Boron appears to affect the metabolism of calcium, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, and vitamin D. Researchers believe that Boron is essential for the conversion of vitamin D to its active form, which would enhance calcium absorption. Vanadium Vanadium is a trace mineral that was discovered to be essential to human nutrition in the 1970’s. Recently, it has gained attention because it may support blood sugar balance. Research indicates that it may possess insulin-like properties. Vanadium may also play a role in building bones and teeth, and it may support healthy cholesterol levels.
