2015 Teacher Fellowship Program The American Revolution Era (1750-1800) Applications due: Friday, April 3, 2015 Stipend: $2000 The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center is offering two teacher fellowships to public and/or private school teachers and library media specialists starting in the summer of 2015. These fellowships will coincide with the Leventhal Map Center’s exhibition, We are One: Mapping America’s Road from Revolution to Independence at the Boston Public Library from May to November 2015 (http://maps.bpl.org/content/tour-we-are-one#tour ). The fellowships are funded in part by the Library of Congress, Teaching with Primary Sources Eastern Region Program, coordinated by Waynesburg University. Applicants may propose their own topic of interest connected to the broad American Revolution era (1750-1800) that will be the focus of their research and their final project. Projects will employ the resources of the Leventhal Map Center, the Boston Public Library and the Library of Congress. A $2000 stipend will be paid to each fellow. Who can apply? ● Any K-12 teacher or library media specialist who teaches the American Revolution. Fellowships are open to public or private school educators. Boston Public School teachers are especially encouraged to apply. ● Educators who are interested in integrating maps and other primary source materials from the collections of the Leventhal Map Center, Boston Public Library and the Library of Congress into their classroom teaching of the American Revolution. Requirements: ● ● ● Teacher fellows must spend a total of 10 days in residence at the Leventhal Map Center by December, 2015. All or the majority of these days must be in July and/or August 2015, to be coordinated with the Leventhal Map Center staff. A final project must be completed by December 2015. Final projects could include a curriculum unit, a primary source set with accompanying lesson plans or other format that would be most useful to the fellow’s classroom teaching. Final projects must include at least two maps from the Leventhal Map Center’s collections as well as other primary sources from the Boston Public Library and/or Library of Congress. Fellows must be willing to have their projects shared online as well as willing to present their work to other teachers at the Map Center during the following school year. To apply, please submit: ● ● ● ● ● A current resume A letter of intent (2 page maximum) describing how you would like to enrich your teaching of the American Revolution era (1750-1800) with maps and other primary sources and what kind of project you envision. Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the collections of the Leventhal Map Center, www.maps.bpl.org, the Boston Public Library, http://www.bpl.org/distinction/featured-collections/, and the Library of Congress, http://www.loc.gov/teachers/ A list of potential maps and sources you might use A letter of support from the school principal or department head.
